We are seeking a reliable and professional Bus Driver to join our team and safely transport students to and from field trips to Camp Triangle Hills. This role requires flexibility, as it does not follow a set schedule. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to safety, excellent driving skills, and a positive attitude when working with students, teachers, and staff.
POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Ensure the health and safety of all staff and members while driving our YMCA school bus. Positively engage with members and families to enhance their experience while maintaining safety during times.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Follow emergency procedures and safety precautions. Follow procedures for reporting all accidents, incidents, and hazards.Maintain order and discipline with staff.Adhere to driving schedule.Perform vehicle checklist before each route.Immediately report vehicle and discipline concerns to supervisor.Adhere to work schedule and substitute for other staff as needed.Adhere to all policies, rules, and regulations as outlined in employee handbook and other communications. Obtain and maintain required training(s).Creates a safe environment in which others feel welcome and respected.Drives bus safely according to YMCA policies and procedures and state laws.Safely operate a school bus and transport students to various field trip locations.Perform thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the bus to ensure it is in good working condition.Follow all traffic laws and regulations, ensuring the safety of all passengers at all times.Maintain a clean and organized bus interior.Communicate effectively with teachers, students, and staff to provide excellent service.Adapt to a flexible schedule with varying trip times and locations.Performs other duties as assigned.QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum age 21 required.Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with a Passenger (P) endorsement.Clean motor vehicle record required.Certifications required within 30 days of hire: CPR/AED & First Aid, New Employee Orientation, Drivers Safety training, Child Abuse Prevention training, and online trainings.Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.Ability to relate and communicate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.Six months or more of related experience preferred.Ability to read and interpret instructions, procedures, manuals, and other documents.Must have a passion for working with young children.
