The Department of History at the University of Utah invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professorship in the history of modern France and its empire, with an emphasis on Francophone Africa (inclusive of French-speaking territories in North, West and/or Central Africa), and with thematic strengths in such areas as migration, capitalism, technology, global health, diplomacy, infrastructure, and/or the environment. The position is integral to a new International and Area Studies curriculum development initiative within the College of Humanities. Competitive applicants will have a research and teaching profile with a strong global component, and a demonstrated commitment to research and to research-informed teaching at all levels of the undergraduate and graduate curriculum. The teaching load is two courses per semester. Teaching responsibilities include undergraduate and graduate courses in the history of France and Francophone Africa, as well as (on a rotating basis) an undergraduate course that critically engages with area studies frameworks, an undergraduate course on historical methods, and a survey of World History since 1500.Minimum Requirements:

The PhD is preferred but ABD candidates are encouraged to apply. Applicants should submit a cover letter, CV, and writing sample no later than October 18, 2024.
