21 Oct 2024The A*STAR Skin Research Labs is seeking a motivated and skilled Senior Research Officer to join our Skin Omics group. This position is ideal for an individual with a strong background in synthetic chemistry and a passion for advancing skin health research through innovative science. The successful candidate will contribute to cutting-edge metabolomics research by synthesising bioactive compounds and performing

in vitro

testing of these bioactives. In addition, the candidate will also have the chance to familiarise themselves with LC-MS/MS-based metabolomics analysis techniques for the study of skin health and disease using state-of-the-art mass spectrometers.Key Responsibilities:

Design and execute the synthesis of novel compounds to support ongoing metabolomics research projects.Optimise synthetic routes for target molecules, ensuring high purity and yield.Maintain detailed records of synthesis procedures, experimental conditions, and analytical data.Conduct

in vitro

assays to evaluate the biological activity of synthesised compounds.Contribute to ongoing metabolomics projects, including biological sample preparation, metabolomics data acquisition, and analysis.Contribute to project planning, preparation of research reports, and publications.Present findings at internal meetings and external conferences.Ensure compliance with laboratory safety protocols and best practices.Maintain laboratory equipment and manage inventory of chemicals and reagents.Requirements:

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemistry, Pharmacy, or a related field.Strong background in organic synthesis, with the ability to design and execute multi-step synthetic routes.Experience with chromatographic (column chromatography, analytical TLC, and preparative TLC) and spectroscopic techniques (NMR, mass spectrometry) for compound purification and structural elucidation.Familiarity with

in vitro

testing methodologies and techniques.Expertise in medicinal chemistry as well as developing and interpreting Structure-Activity Relationship (SAR) data for drug design will be advantageous.Strong organisational and time-management skills.Effective communication and teamwork abilities.The above eligibility criteria are not exhaustive.
