19-00160Who We Are:

Southwest Research Institute's Solar System Science & Exploration Division is located in Boulder, Colorado. We conduct basic observational, modeling, and theoretical research in a wide range of solar system and astrophysical topics, including Solar Physics/Heliophysics, Planetary Science, Astrophysics, Origins Research, and Geophysics. We also participate and/or lead several NASA orbital and deep space missions, including PUNCH (Sun), Solar Orbiter (Sun), Vigil (Sun), Mars Science Laboratory (Mars), New Horizons (Pluto) and Lucy (Jovian Trojans).Objectives of this Role:

Investigate the physics and morphology of secondary crater impacts through empirical research.Determine the role geology and geophysics play in small-body impact crater populations (e.g., for asteroids and Kuiper belt objects).Daily and Monthly Responsibilities:

Improve and enhance data product codes by adding new functionality.Conduct geologic mapping using ArcGIS and spacecraft images.Analyze data from spacecraft images and geologic mapping and produce scientific results.Model geologic processes to compare with spacecraft data.Requirements:

Requires a Bachelors degree in Planetary Science.1 years: Python experience.Familiarity with Mathematica and ArcGIS.USGS image processing software, small bodies mapping tool experience.Special Requirements:

Work assignment is in Boulder, Colorado.Job Locations: Boulder, Colorado
