The Category Manager reports to the Department Head – Procurement and proactively manages and supports the raw material supply base to meet/exceed In-N-Out Burger's service, quality, cost, inventory, growth, and innovation requirements. This role is also responsible for strategic sourcing, supply risk mitigation, supplier relationship management, and cost management.General ResponsibilitiesPartner with key functional leaders and stakeholders to deliver best-in-class service, quality, cost, and inventory performance.Conduct business reviews with key stakeholders to monitor progress against key goals/priorities, identify issues and opportunities, and understand category trends.Support the development and implementation of supply risk mitigation strategies for key raw materials; lead complex cross-functional assessments to identify and prioritize supply risk mitigation activities.Collaborate with stakeholders to qualify new suppliers and raw materials to reduce supply risk; lead and support large-scale bid events and negotiations with suppliers.Develop and implement category strategies that deliver against overall requirements at the best value; partner with cross-functional teams to expand supplier network (i.e. identify potential suppliers, assess capability, strengthen supply chain, negotiate pricing, execute contracts, etc.)Develop and foster highly engaged supplier and 3rd party partners that provide a competitive advantage; conduct supplier segmentation assessment (i.e. Strategic, Collaborative, and Transactional) and develop strategies to drive improved value with suppliers in each segment.Partner with key stakeholders to identify, assess, prioritize, and execute cost reduction initiatives.Leverage market/commodity insights, inflation mitigation techniques, escalation/de-escalation clauses, etc. to forecast costs and secure market competitive pricing; provide regular updates on cost inflation by category.Support people planning activities including talent/capability assessments, succession planning, etc.Coach and mentor team members to promote learning/growth and support career goals including overseeing new employee onboarding; foster and promote a positive work environment where employees are deeply engaged and committed.Generate and monitor performance reports that track and analyze supplier performance metrics on a regular cadence (i.e. monthly, quarterly, etc.); collaborate cross-functionally to identify improvement opportunities.Job RequirementsA minimum of a Bachelor's degree in a field such as Supply Chain Management, Finance or related, required.10+ years' experience in Procurement and/or Supply Chain role, preferably in the restaurant industry is required.5+ years' experience with strategic sourcing, negotiations, contracts, etc.; required.5+ years' experience in food manufacturing/restaurant industry; preferred.Previous experience with purchasing fresh produce and dry goods (i.e. paper products, plastics, janitorial supplies, etc.); preferred.One or more of the following certifications is preferred: Procurement or Purchasing Professional, Supply Chain Professional, Lean or Six Sigma.Proficient in MS Office, with intermediate skills in Word, PowerPoint, and Excel is required.Proven ability to network and build relationships; ability to interact with all levels of management.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Strong analytical and problem solving skills.Ability to take initiative and be a highly motivated self-starter.Must be able to work on multiple projects simultaneously while remaining organized, efficient and flexible.Experience in leading a team, providing a path for career development, and the desire and ability to provide direct reports with training and tools to grow and succeed.Ability to maintain confidentiality while exercising discretion and good judgment.Valid California Driver's License required.Willingness to travel as needed (10-15%).Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.ABOUT In-N-Out BurgerIn-N-Out Burger was founded in 1948 by Harry and Esther Snyder in Baldwin Park, California, and remains privately owned and operated.
