UNAC/UHCP .As a union of 35,000 registered nurses and healthcare workers in California and Hawaii, UNAC/UHCP is dedicated to creating a better workplace and a healthier world. This hybrid or remote position can be based anywhere in the state of California, if you are willing to travel 25-30%; mostly day trips in California to LA, San Diego, Sacramento, et al. All applicants should be willing to travel on an as-needed basis and be prepared to work in the main office in San Dimas, CA, or where necessary.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Legal Director, this position comes with responsibilities and opportunities for professional growth and development. You will focus on litigating labor and employment law cases concerning a health care professionals' union, including: interviewing members and witnesses; researching potential causes of action and developing innovative and creative legal theories to expand upon existing worker protections; drafting pleadings and briefs (including amicus curiae briefs); appearing in court, at arbitrations, or before administrative agencies such as the National Labor Relations Board; training members and staff; advising and counseling staff; attending labor and employment law conferences; participating in UNAC/UHCPs policy and legislative endeavors as well as UNAC/UHCP-sponsored meetings or events that promote workers rights.

UNAC/UHCP provides team members with a collegial working environment where the open and frequent exchange of ideas is encouraged and expected. The position also requires a significant degree of autonomy; both a cooperative style and the willingness to take individual responsibility are needed. Based in San Dimas, California, representation may occur anywhere UNAC/UHCP affiliates and members are located.

Essential Functions

Manage a substantial and varied caseload.Identify legal issues and advise on how to address them in a way consistent with the goals and objectives of UNAC/UHCP, its affiliates, and its members.Investigate, research, and analyze facts and laws to advise UNAC/UHCP officers, staff, affiliates, and members on labor, employment, and other laws.Pursue litigation before courts, administrative agencies, and arbitrators on behalf of UNAC/UHCP, its affiliates, and its members.Train UNAC/UHCP staff, affiliate officers, and members on labor, employment, and other laws.Provide legal review of UNAC/UHCP publications.Analyze legislative proposals and assist the Political/Legislative Department draft legislation consistent with UNAC/UHCPs goals and objectives.Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school.Membership of the State Bar of California or in another jurisdiction that qualifies for the State Bar of Californias Registered In-House Counsel Certificate of Registration.4+ years of experience, after passing the state bar, practicing labor and/or employment law, with arbitration experience.Preference for four to seven years of legal experience but will consider other experience levels.Prior representation of labor unions is strongly preferred.Ability to write quickly and effectively to various audiences, including federal and state court judges, employers, UNAC/UHCP staff, and rank-and-file members.Ability to speak persuasively to courts and groups of UNAC/UHCP staff, leaders, members, and unorganized healthcare professionals on legal topics.Ability to analyze complex legal issues thoroughly and to convey the analysis with precision in writing and verbally.Ability to work collaboratively in a team.Ability to manage multiple priorities and complex assignments on time.Open to traveling regionally and statewide.Ability to obtain a valid California driver's license before starting employment and maintaining it throughout employment.

Salary And Benefits

UNAC/UHCP offers an exceptional salary range of $185,000-$205,000+ based on experience. This is a full-time, exempt position. Our client also offers enhanced benefits of 100% paid medical with $5 co-pays and three employer-paid dental options, $800 optical allowance, vision exams covered, $600 monthly auto allowance, fuel card for business travel, auto insurance reimbursed, if eligible, a 401K option with a 5% employer contribution, and a defined pension, vacation accrual schedule with the ability to cash out up to 4 weeks each calendar year, 15 paid holidays, 10 flex days, Flexible Spending Account, employer-paid life insurance, and more.
