Research Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant for Precision Mental Health (50%

The Center for Precision Mental Health and Wellness in Stanford University’s School of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences is seeking a Research Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to apply medical knowledge and experience in an innovative area of precision medicine trials focused on mental health. The Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant will assess psychiatric and physical health and administer treatments through precision medicine studies aligned with scope of practice delegated responsibilities, oversee study conduct and assure study participant safety, and coordinate and manage care for participant enrolled in precision medicine trials.These groundbreaking trials are among the first to integrate brain-based measures, such as functional magnetic resonance imaging, with personalized selection of exploratory and targeted interventions. Success in this role will require the ability to effectively apply medical knowledge in these innovative trial settings. The Research Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant must be highly adaptable, with exceptional situational awareness, capable of rapidly assessing and responding to medical situations. Remaining calm and decisive during study visits and participant interactions will be essential.Procedures will include diagnosis and treatment of medical conditions such as major depressive disorder, administration of schedule 1 drugs, on-label and off-label medications for subtypes of major depressive disorder within an investigational setting, overseeing participants when tapering off current medications to ensure enrollment criteria, titrate dose according to study protocols, perform physical exams to ensure enrollment criteria, assess adverse events, track for changes in clinical symptoms and suicidality during study participation, track vital signs during study participation, participate in study design, communicate with referring physicians and other health care providers, advise participants to ensure compliance and retention in studies, be trained and prepared to implement CPR, emergency cardiovascular care and emergency medications in case of severe adverse advents, and maintain source documentation.The Research Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant position will be under the direction of the principal investigator, and will interact closely with a study psychiatrist. They will work in a dynamic and collaborative group including scientists, data analysts, clinical research professionals, and academic physicians.The Center for Precision Mental Health and Wellness is funded by NIH grants and philanthropic support, with a mission to understand depression and anxiety as disorders of individual brain circuits. Certified as Nurse Practitioner by the California State Board of Registered Nursing.· Eligibility to obtain a Nurse Practitioner Furnishing (NPF) Certificate, in accordance with Business and Professions Code, Section 2836.1. California Code of Regulations, Section 1480, et seq.OrCertification to practice as a physician assistant issued by the California State Board of Medical Quality Assurance.
