Electricenergyonline, Tucker, Georgia, us, 30085
Oglethorpe Power Corporation (Oglethorpe) is an electric generation cooperative based in Tucker, Georgia, operating on a not-for-profit basis, that relies on a diverse portfolio of generation assets (nuclear, natural gas, coal, and hydroelectric) to provide wholesale power to its members that distribute electricity to more than four million people, many of them located in rural Georgia.
Oglethorpe seeks a highly-skilled, solutions-oriented attorney with positive energy, excellent communication skills, and the ability to think creatively to join its small but well-integrated legal department as Senior Counsel. This position reports to Oglethorpe's General Counsel.
The right candidate will have experience and demonstrated proficiency in contract drafting and negotiation -- with a focus on complex agreements and transactions, and regulatory compliance. In addition to general corporate work, Senior Counsel's principal duties will include:
Structuring, drafting, negotiating, and interpreting complicated procurement and/or construction agreements;
Providing counsel on corporate structure, authority, policy, and governance matters;
Supporting and supervising outside counsel advising the corporation on specialized regulatory compliance matters;
Advising on a range of legal matters related to plant operations including dispute resolution;
Helping to establish and maintain legal templates and processes and negotiating vendor requests for deviations from those standard templates.
Senior Counsel will have the opportunity to interact with and advise senior leadership and clients at all levels of the organization across multiple departments. Previous legal work involving one or more of energy, construction, plant development, engineering procurement and construction (EPC) contracts, high-dollar procurement, industrial operations, federal procurement, environmental, highly regulated industries, and/or real estate will be viewed favorably.
At Oglethorpe, the lawyers that make up the Office of General Counsel partner collaboratively with one another and the business units they serve to provide accurate, practical, impactful, timely, and efficient legal services. The demeanor and character of the individual who joins the Office of General Counsel is important to us. As an SEC filer with $16.5 billion in assets and an annual revenue of over $2.1 billion, Oglethorpe has still not lost its small company feel, appreciation for work-life balance, or the value it places on real relationships. We genuinely enjoy our work and the clients whom we serve.
