Director, Estate & Gift PlanningThe ASU Foundation (ASUF) fosters partnerships between ASU andlike-minded individuals, corporations and foundations who believein ASU’s mission and provide resources for ASU to manifest itscharter into meaningful impact.

The Director of Estate and Gift Planning is a frontlinefundraising professional with strong development experience whoassists in developing, implementing, and refining innovative estateand gift planning strategies in collaboration with the ExecutiveDirector of Estate and Gift Planning and other colleagues acrossthe enterprise. This individual will be a proven fundraising leaderwho deeply understands estate and gift planning and takes astrategic, collaborative, and entrepreneurial approach todeveloping and strengthening a sustainable Estate and Gift Planningprogram and individual relationships. The Director will secure andincrease significant philanthropic support in partnership with ASUFdevelopment staff and other collaborators across the enterprise toadvance long-term financial support for the ASU Foundation andArizona State University through planned giving vehicles. Thisposition is joining an extensive but growing team during acomprehensive university-wide campaign launch, where estate givingwill be a major priority. The Director will serve as anintegral member of the Estate and Gift Planning team.

What you'll do:

Assists in conceptualizing and implementing strategies toadvance the comprehensive estate and gift planning developmentprogram that supports the ASU Foundation’s fundraisingpriorities.

Responsible for achieving enterprise wide, unit, and personalfundraising goals and metrics.

Building and maintaining a personal portfolio of major andprincipal gift prospects; secures philanthropic investments insupport of Arizona State University’s priorities; works within theASU Foundation prospect management and tracking system, followingall protocols for visits and solicitations.

Primary responsibility for collaboratively conceptualizing andoverseeing, along with the ASU EP Outreach Hub, a results-orientedcomprehensive planned giving communication and marketing plan thatbuilds the prospect pipeline and shares impact with donors whichleads to increased gift conversions.

Establishes and nurtures effective, collegial workingrelationships with ASUF colleagues, ASU Enterprise Partnerscollaborators, university partners, volunteers, prospects, anddonors.

Assists the Executive Director in engaging with and developing alarge external community volunteer network in support of plannedgiving at ASU, including but not limited to attorneys, financialplanners, trust administrators, family office staff, and personalbankers.

Serves as a member of the Strategic Philanthropy Crew LeadershipTeam, which is a working group of unit-based developmentprofessionals who receive extensive planned giving training toincrease knowledge of estate and gift planning throughout thedevelopment enterprise.

Collaborates with Executive Director and Donor Relations, tomaintain and expand the stewardship program for planned givingdonors and their families while leveraging existing CornerstoneLegacy Society.

With ASU Enterprise Partners Centers of Excellence (Finance,Legal, Gift Administration), partners with the Executive Directorand Estate Administration Specialist to structure, document, andrecord all planned gifts in accordance with Federal, State, and IRSguidelines and ASUF policies and procedures.

Aids in establishing reliable reporting protocols for monthly,quarterly, and annual analysis of estate and gift planning metrics;furnishing timely reports on progress toward assigned goals.

Proactively collaborates across the University enterprise toleverage the maximum philanthropic potential of each prospect anddonor.

Promotes education of ASUF and ASU colleagues in aspects ofplanned giving, and ensures program effectiveness andtransparency.

Makes recommendations on tools, training, and software toenhance the effectiveness of the estate and gift planning program.

Other duties as assigned.

What you'll need:

Knowledgeable in the use, application and administration ofplanned giving instruments, tax legislation, real estatetransactions, and IRS regulation/code as it relates to plannedgiving.

Broad knowledge of fund-raising principles and techniques,preferably in a complex academic setting and proven success inbuilding productive, long-term relationships with senior universityleaders, key professional advisors, faculty, staff, institutionalboards, volunteers, and donors.

Strong, collegial interpersonal skills and excellent written andoral communication ability as reflected in face to facesolicitations, written proposals, oral presentations, and strategicplans.

Ability to set goals and priorities, take initiative, anddemonstrate accountability while remaining nimble to match theFoundation’s strategic direction and evolving priorities,experience with budgeting and financial analysis.

Team-oriented strategist able to effectively manage complexsituations involving numerous and sometimes competingconstituencies; comfortable working in a fast-paced, resultsoriented environment; demonstrated experience successfully managingstaff and volunteers.

Experience with Salesforce CRM, Salesforce Marketing Cloud,Workday Finance, Workday HR, Affiniquest, PG Calc, and Crescendo(or similar tools).

Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality andresponsibility regarding information related to Foundation andUniversity business and prospect information.

An advocate’s belief in the vision of ASU as the New AmericanUniversity and an ability to represent the institution well.

Relevant qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree.

5-7 years of successful development experience, preferably inhigher education, estate planning, financial advising or taxadvising.

Preferred education and experience:

Advanced degree (JD, MBA, MPA) or equivalent.

Certification (CFP, CAP, CPA) or equivalent.
