The Core Systems Developer position is a specialized role responsible for maintaining the performance and reliability of Symitar (Episys), the central financial processing system. This role involves developing Core programs for critical functions such as batch file maintenance, monetary postings, and automation. Key responsibilities include PowerOn programming, code review, system maintenance and upgrades, quality assurance testing, database management, data replication, backups, and troubleshooting client-side applications, services, and systems. An ideal candidate is an analytical critical thinker who is agile and flexible with financial institution experience.Responsibilities:Install, configure, and maintain the credit unions core financial processing system (Symitar) and mortgage servicing system (FICS)Assist with upgrades to the Symitar AIX operating system running the core applicationTroubleshoot and solve hardware, software, and network-related issues including system crashesServe as the point of contact for system issues occurring during processing, including those reported by usersEvaluate existing systems or processes to identify inefficiencies and develop strategies for enhancementsMonitor disk space capacity, suggest, develop, and implement data purges to manage the capacityReview vendor documentation for core application upgrades to determine which changes are impactful to systems, staff, and membersCommunicate code, system, and process changes with various stakeholders to ensure understanding of the topicDepict risk considerations and outline detailed implementation with rollback steps, including the submission of Quality Control, Change Control, and Import documentationCollaborate with the Core Services team and leadership to analyze and resolve complex issues, devising strategies to reduce or eliminate themAssess current processes and procedures to pinpoint opportunities for automation and enhanced efficiencyPreserve and transfer the production database to the test database on an ongoing basisDesign, build, test, and maintain job programs, plans, and schedules for the core financial processing system using software programming language (PowerOn)Utilize testing, troubleshooting, and debugging to ensure accuracy, reliability, and improved system efficiencyMaintain and modify core applications using HTML, Power ON, and another programming language to meet system changes and credit union specificationsCreate automated workflows, postings, reports, and on-demand business processesConduct troubleshooting of existing code to reduce user downtime and guarantee optimal service deliveryPropose, develop, and implement data purges and configuration updates to manage performancePreserve and replicate the production database to test databases on an ongoing basisEnsure the accuracy, reliability, and improved system efficiency, reliability, and performance through testing, troubleshooting, and debuggingManage technical documentation and ensure all processes are accurately documented and updated in the team's repositoryDocument the architecture of applications and the steps for troubleshootingCreate comprehensive procedures, program specifications, and logic flow diagrams for system configurations, Core functionalities, applications, programs, and PowerOn codeAct as a subject matter expert in department and enterprise projects, protecting the integrity of the Core and our members' dataCoordinate and collaborate effectively with both technical and non-technical teamsCollaborate with different departments and system teams to clarify and gather system or functional requirements for initiatives and projectsMaintain a comprehensive understanding of the needs of business units by assisting business units with examining assumptions related to the successful execution of plansOffer mentorship and instruction to other members of the Core Services team regarding the architecture and development of host processesParticipate in annual Disaster Recovery plans for the Core systems, updating processes as neededAdhere to department policies such as project requests, deployment procedures, conducting code reviews, and weekly project updates to managementProvide operational and on-call support as required in a 24/7 environmentQualifications:
2+ years of experience with software maintenance2+ years of experience with programming databases including data modeling, stored procedures, functions, and query optimizations1+ years of PowerON programming experience preferredExperience with Object-Oriented Design (OOD) and Object-Oriented Programming (OOP), service-oriented architectures, SQL, JavaScript, CSS, and HTMLGeneral knowledge and understanding of object-oriented programming and principlesGeneral knowledge and understanding of relational and hierarchical database conceptsExperience with a financial institution preferredExperience with Core Episys application and programming language is a preferredBachelors degree in computer science, information technology, or related field preferredMust be able to maintain a high level of confidentialityAbility to prioritize tasks, deal effectively with competing and changing priorities to meet deadlinesAccurate, detail-oriented, and organized with task managementAbility to analyze and resolve difficult or complex problemsGood written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills to interact effectively with members, staff, vendors, and government regulatorsAbility to influence others regarding policies, practices, and proceduresWorks independently with general supervisionSkillsAnalytics
