Created in 1978 by the New Mexico Legislature, the Department of Cultural Affairs represents New Mexico's dedication to preserving and celebrating the cultural integrity and diversity of our state. The Department oversees a broad range of New Mexico's arts and cultural heritage agencies. These include 15 divisions representing a variety of programs and services.

Why does the job exist?

The Performing Arts Program Manager is responsible the overall operations and all aspects of the performing arts department, including developing and implementing innovative and culturally relevant opera, dance, music, film, and theatre productions and programs that position the NHCC as a leader in Hispanic arts, culture, and humanities

How does it get done?

The Performing Arts Manager develops and manages the performing arts master calendar, approval of PA staff schedules, coordinates program design and production needs, collaborates on the annual film symposium and film screenings, and supervises program collaborations with partners. The Performing Arts Manager maintains regular communication with NHCC staff who oversee the box office, Marketing, and Performing Arts rentals to ensure smooth operations. They manage performing arts grants, monitor performing arts revenue and ticket sales, prepare reports on performing arts program attendance and revenue, and maintain relationships with collaborators and industry contacts. The Manager supports executive leadership's financial revenue models for Performing Arts rentals and partnerships

Who are the customers?

The Performing Arts Manager works closely with the Artistic Director and additional NHCC senior leadership as well as other NHCC program areas to create community and school outreach, develop engaging programs for both on and off campus purposes, develop programmatic through-lines for the NHCC, and ensure marketing and publicity of Performing Arts events is carried out on schedule. The Performing Arts Manager ensures Performance Agreements are executed in a timely fashion and ensures proper customer and partner relations for the Performing Arts program. They supervise the Performing Arts staff, and manage related schedules, program requirements, facilities, and equipment needs.

Ideal Candidate

Bachelor's or graduate degree in Performing Arts (dance, theatre, music, voice). Supervisory experience in a performing arts setting. Experience in developing and managing multiple aspects of performing arts productions and programs, and knowledge of theatre productions and technical needs. Financial experience in managing budgets and tracking revenue goals. Experience in creating agreements for performing arts productions. Experience in managing all aspects of grants.

Minimum Qualification

A Bachelor's Degree in any field of study from an accredited college or university and five (5) years of professional level experience operating within parameters and guidelines directly related to the purpose of the position defined by the agency at the time of recruitment. Any required licensure, certification or registration shall be defined at the time of recruitment and will be in addition to the above requirements.

Employment Requirements

Employment is subject to a pre-employment background investigation and is conditional pending results. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment. Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License.

Working Conditions

Office setting, exposure to Visual/Video Display terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and telephone usage with extended periods of sitting and standing. Flexible work schedule to accommodate performance hours must be able to lift up to 25 lbs.
