SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:

The inside sales engineer plays a crucial role in the project planning and sales process by determining the cost, resources, and timeline required to implement building automation systems. Responsible for reviewing project plans and specifications, developing cost estimates, preparing bids and proposals, collaborating with the internal equipment sales team, and coordinating a detailed turnover package to the controls department for project execution.

Receives project construction plans and specifications from the sales team to assess project viability.

Reviews and analyzes construction plans, specifications, and relevant codes to identify project requirements and potential risks.

Selects appropriate control products and installation methods to provide the most cost-effective solutions that meet project requirements.

Prepares detailed product selections, cost analyses, and coordinates with subcontractors to develop accurate project estimates.

Occasionally participates in initial job site walkthroughs with contractors or building management to better evaluate project requirements for existing buildings.

Develops a project-specific scope of work and prepares a formal, itemized proposal for the sales team to present to the client.

Participates in sales-to-operations turnover meetings to communicate project requirements, proposed scope, and cost estimates to the operations team.

Works closely with project managers post-sales to ensure a smooth transition from estimation to project execution and to address any issues that may arise.

Prepares engineering re-estimates when necessary and collaborates with the sales team to ensure clarity and satisfaction with the project scope.

Serves as a technical resource for the sales account manager and the controls team.

Occasionally assists with preliminary design of control systems to support the engineering efforts of the controls sales account manager.

Stays updated on the latest control products, technologies, and industry trends to recommend innovative solutions for projects.

Identifies potential risks associated with the proposed solutions and develops mitigation strategies to minimize impact on project delivery and costs.

Reviews and ensures that all estimates and proposals comply with company standards, client expectations, and regulatory requirements.

Maintains accurate and organized records of all project documentation, including estimates, proposals, contracts, and communications.

Participates in continuous professional development to enhance technical knowledge and stay updated on industry standards and best practices.

Provides feedback to the design and engineering teams on estimating and project outcomes to improve future project planning and estimation accuracy.

Performs other related duties as required or assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s Degree (Preferred):

Field of Study: A degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Construction Management, or a related technical field is preferred.

Technical School or Certifications (Also Considered):

Relevant certifications in areas such as HVAC, automation, electrical, or control systems are acceptable. Examples include certifications from recognized industry organizations or technical schools.

Industry Experience (Also Considered):

Experience Required: 3-5 years of experience in construction estimating, project management, or a related field within the building controls, automation, or HVAC industries.

Relevant Experience: Experience with control systems, including HVAC controls, lighting controls, energy management systems, or programmable logic controllers (PLCs), is highly desirable.

Analytical Skills: Demonstrated ability to analyze complex technical data and develop accurate, competitive project estimates.

State driver’s license, auto insurance, auto registration, acceptable driving record.
