OverviewThe Email and SMS Specialist (Marketer I) plays a critical institutional-wide role in managing and overseeing the email campaign process for USU Alumni and key stakeholders.

This position is responsible for representing high-level senders such as the USU President, Deans, and Vice Presidents, ensuring that all communications align with the university's strategic goals. This role involves email setup, deployment, and performance tracking, ensuring emails are optimized for various platforms and devices. With a strong technical skill set and knowledge of accessibility standards, the specialist ensures all email content is accurate and complete, creates relevant landing pages, and makes judgment calls to optimize email performance. Additionally, this role includes managing mailing lists, audience segmentation, and analyzing email metrics to refine strategies.

This highly visible role involves daily communication and coordination with multiple segments of over 505k alumni, donors, community leaders, and friends. The ideal candidate has superior organizational skills, excellent customer service acumen, and the ability to present professionally formatted emails that maintain university visual identity standards. Additionally, the specialist will monitor, analyze, and report on email performance metrics to continuously optimize communication outcomes. This role requires flexibility, as the specialist must be available at times at night and on weekends to send and monitor communications, ensuring timely responses to performance metrics.

Key responsibilities include managing an evolving email calendar, implementing strategies to enhance email marketing efficiency, building email templates and sequences to improve open and click through rates, and conducting A/B testing.

Email audience segmentation and sequencing will be an important focus, as well as ensuring content is appropriate, accurate and compliant.

The specialist will also implement and manage an SMS platform and strategy, analyzing SMS campaign results to improve communication and marketing efforts for major events and solicitations.

Occasional additional duties include assisting with updating Advancement webpages and online forms.

This position is telework eligible within the state of Utah. Telework outside of the state of Utah is subject to review and approval by the University prior to a job offer being extended.

ResponsibilitiesOrganization and Planning – 70%

Manage all emails communications for USU alumni and key stakeholders.

Oversee the email platform (currently Real Magnet), handling email setup, deployment, and performance reporting.

Ensure appropriate email audience segmentation and content accuracy.

Maintain and adjust the email calendar to ensure timely messaging.

Optimize email content for all devices and servers.

Ensure visual identity consistency across all emails.

Implement and analyze SMS campaigns.

Maintain clear policies and procedures for mass communication requests via JIRA and Real Magnet.

Analytics – 15%

Enhance email marketing, client service, and content creation efficiency.

Build email templates and sequences.

Conduct A/B testing on email campaign elements.

Maintain reporting and analytics of individual emails and overall trends.

Customer Service – 10%

Provide timely assistance and feedback to internal stakeholders.

Monitor, analyze, and report on email performance metrics.

Advise clients on email marketing strategy and execution.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align email campaigns with university marketing initiatives.

Educate and inform departments on mass communication policies.

Web Assistance – 5%

Occasionally assist with Advancement webpage updates.

Occasionally assist with online forms through Jotform, Givecampus, and other platforms.

QualificationsMinimum Qualifications

Four years of related experience;

OR

a Bachelor's degree in English, marketing, communications, or related field;

OR

an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience with editing and proofreading written communication.

Experience using technical software.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in email marketing and automation.

Experience using Real Magnet.

Experience using JIRA.

Experience using a form builder (Jotform).

Strong knowledge of higher education fundraising principles preferred.
