Navarro Research and Engineering, Inc. is recruiting a Ground Water Modeler, in Las Vegas, NV.Navarro Research & Engineering is an award-winning federal contractor dedicated to partnering with clients to advance clean energy and deliver effective solutions for complex challenges in the nuclear and environmental fields. Headquartered in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, Navarro has active programs in place across the nation for DOE/NNSA, NASA, and the Department of Defense.The Groundwater Modeler will utilize models for calibration, optimization, and probabilistic forecasting of groundwater flow and radionuclide transport from underground nuclear test locations on the Nevada National Security Site. The aquifers simulated are primarily vitric and welded tuffs with interspersed lava flows separated by bedded air fall tuff confining units. The area is structurally complex with numerous faults and calderas. The modeler is expected to develop written documentation of modeling results, presentation materials, graphics, and data packages.General Responsibilities and Knowledge Skills:Knowledge of and experience with calibration and optimization of models.Experience with evaluation of model sensitivity and uncertainty.Knowledge of flow and transport in porous and fractured rock, dispersion, matrix diffusion, radioactive decay, sorption processes, and colloid transport.Knowledge of porous media and equivalent porous media approaches to simulate flow and transport in fractured rock.Knowledge of particle tracking methods in flow and transport.Experience running on multi-processor computing resources; stand alone or cloud based.Knowledge and experience interpreting aquifer test data using analytical and numerical approaches.Specific Responsibilities and Knowledge/SkillsThe ideal candidate will have experience in a scientific programming language such as Python, C, Visual Basic, or Fortran and be comfortable navigating and manipulating data in a Linux or Windows type environment.The modeler should have a basic familiarity with Geographic Information System applications and can use GIS files as model inputs.Experience using a variety of simulation codes including MODFLOW6, PEST, and GOLDSIM.Familiarity with geologic modeling software such as EarthVision is desirable.Experience developing models to support regulatory decision making.Requirements
Bachelor's or higher degree in a science or engineering discipline.Minimum 5 years' experience in the application of groundwater models to complex problemsWorking Conditions:This position will initially be based in Las Vegas at the project office.
