Description Job Title Construction Quality Assurance Engineer 3/4 Location Los Alamos, NM, US Organization Name ES-DO/Engineering Services Division Office Minimum Salary Maximum Salary What You Will Do The Engineering Services Division of Los Alamos National Laboratory develops, maintains, and applies a diverse set of engineering capabilities to provide innovative engineering solutions that enable the Laboratory's scientific and national security mission. This position is within the Engineering Services Division Office (ES-DO). ES Groups are responsible for implementing the Conduct of Engineering (COE) program at Los Alamos National Laboratory in support of systems, structure and component modifications and new installations. This position supports nuclear, accelerator or non-nuclear facilities across 38 square miles of the Laboratory and promotes a workplace culture centered on mutual respect and inclusivity, ensuring freedom from discrimination and harassment for all . Note: This position will be filled at either the Construction Quality Engineer 3 or the Construction Quality Engineer 4 level depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level. Construction Quality Assurance Engineer 3 ($101,700 - $168,200) As a Construction Quality Assurance Engineer 3 you will provide field engineering leadership through review of construction submittals, technical clarification of design during construction, assuring installations conform to design drawings and manufacturer's instructions, timely identification of potential design conflict, scheduling testing and inspection of constructed work; lead, develop and document quality assurance and control processes, assisting with preparation of constructed work for commissioning, and assisting with turnover of completed work to facilities. Construction Quality Assurance Engineer 4 ($122,300 - $206,300) In addition to the duties described above, at Level 4, you'll be tasked with crafting quality management plans and quality control systems for construction projects and aiding in the enhancement of LANL's Engineering Standards. Your role will involve supporting the Team Lead in work planning, project staffing, and recruitment. Prepare, train others, and implement institutional level QA policies and QA procedures. Mentor Laboratory personnel with the implementation and understanding of QA policies, plans, and procedures, proving laboratory management with recommendations and advice. What You Need Minimum Job Requirements: Construction Quality Assurance Engineer 3: Demonstrated broad-based , reading and understanding engineering design documents, drawings, and specifications to ensure their completeness and constructability. Demonstrated ability to articulate concepts through various oral and written communication media, using a diverse range of technical and business acumen. At least 8 years of practical experience conducting field verifications of construction work to oversee, facilitate, and enforce compliance with drawings, specifications, national codes, and standards. Minimum 8 years working experience in construction work planning and control methods; facility maintenance and installation techniques and construction principles and procedures, design guides, appropriate standards, and administrative practices. Demonstrated ability in reviewing field material purchase requisitions through material take-off, including the review of estimated quantities and ensuring compliance with design specifications and drawings. Demonstrated ability in coaching and mentoring of early career engineers and an aptitude for independently leading others in your field in the execution of their duties. Construction Quality Assurance Engineer 4: In addition to what is outlined at the lower level, qualification at the higher level requires: Minimum 12 years of experience with QAE activities including, but not limited to, system and/or performance audits, assessments, and surveillance, recommending and implementing corrective actions, providing thorough and accurate documentation of technical and/or statistical reports, and ensuring QE compliance. At least 12 years of practical experience working with QAE regulations, policies, and procedures. Minimum 12 years of working experience with national consensus standards of QAE, such as ASME, ISO, ANSI/ASME NQA-1, and U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission regulatory guide series. Minimum 12 years of working experience with weapons quality requirements: Department of Energy/National Nuclear Security Administration (DOE/NNSA), weapons quality policy (NAP-24), nuclear weapons complex technical business practices, NNSA development and production manual, and the NNSA QE procedure, weapons manufacturing, production, and design operations and practices, as well as weapons systems. Minimum 12 years of working experience with application of engineering, environmental, procurement, construction, testing, operations, practices sufficient to comprehend specified engineering, environmental, procurement, construction, testing, operations, and certification requirements. Education/Experience QA Engineer 3 : Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Quality Assurance, or Industrial Systems Engineering or a related field and 8 year of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. Education/Experience QA Engineer 4 : Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Quality Assurance, or Industrial Systems Engineering or a related field and 12 year of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. Desired Qualifications: Registered Engineer in Training (EIT) or licensed Professional Engineer (PE). Advanced engineering or technical degree is highly desired. Demonstrated experience using and interpreting industry, regulatory, or Department of Energy/National Nuclear Security Administration (DOE/NNSA) codes, standards, and criteria pertinent to the construction discipline. Knowledge of DOE and LANL Engineering Standards and Conduct of Engineering Obtaining and maintaining commercial inspection certifications associated with specific disciplines (e.g. International Code Council (ICC), American Concrete Institute (ACI) or other relevant commercial certifications) Work Location : The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
