Location Note that this position is located at our Newport Beach, California office. We have a hybrid schedule where all staff are expected to be in the office on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, and have the option to work from home or in-office Mondays & Fridays.

Business Development Associate at Canterbury Consulting At Canterbury, the Business Development Associate will play a pivotal role in raising capital from wealth managers, including registered investment advisors (RIAs), for the firm’s private capital solutions program. These solutions include private equity fund of funds, private credit fund of funds, white-label private market solutions, and co-investment funds. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong interest in private markets, possess a solid understanding of investment strategies—particularly within private markets—and exhibit exceptional project management and communication skills. This role requires a highly motivated, goal-oriented self-starter with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.

This is an opportunity to contribute significantly to the firm’s private fund business sales program, offering a chance to be an integral part of its foundational growth.

Key Responsibilities:

Business Development: Prospect, establish, and cultivate relationships with potential investors, including RIAs and wealth managers, by presenting the firm's private fund of funds and other private market solutions.

Relationship Management: Develop and maintain ongoing relationships with both prospective and existing clients, ensuring a deep understanding of their investment needs and providing regular updates on fund performance and market developments.

Sales Strategy: Collaborate with senior leadership to develop and refine the sales strategy for the firm’s private capital solutions, ensuring alignment with broader business objectives.

Pitch Development: Create, refine, and present compelling pitch books and investment proposals tailored to prospective clients, effectively communicating the value of the firm’s offerings.

Content Creation: Develop original content, including tearsheets, presentations, and analytical materials, to support new business activities and client engagement.

Industry Expertise: Stay informed on industry trends and market developments through continuous research, attending relevant conferences, and networking with industry professionals.

Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with internal teams across research, marketing, consulting, and client services to ensure cohesive and effective client engagement.

Travel: Regular travel throughout the US and select Canadian provinces is required to engage with clients and prospects.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, economics, or a related field.

2-4 years of experience in business development, sales, or client-facing roles within the financial services industry, with a strong preference for experience in private markets.

Firm understanding of private equity and private credit investment opportunities, with the ability to discuss complex financial concepts confidently.

Exceptional business writing skills, including grammar, spelling, and proofreading abilities.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess client needs and develop tailored solutions.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, with the ability to create polished, professional presentations.

Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey complex ideas clearly and persuasively, adapting language and tone for different audiences.

Strong work ethic, attention to detail, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
