"Position Summary:Provide health services to students. Implement comprehensive health program of health services for the campus. Promote health education and preventive health practices for students. Support the education process, by working to assure the health of the students.Qualifications:Education/Certification:Graduate of an accredited professional nursing education programValid nursing license to practice professional nursing in Texas from the State Board of Nurse ExaminersCPR and First Aid certificationsExperience:Minimum of 3 years nursing experience, preferably in school nursing and/or community health nursingRequired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skillsAbility to implement policies and proceduresDemonstrate a genuine interest in the student population and its health needsAbility to exercise professional judgement in making decisionsKnowledge of state and local laws relating to health and school nursingPrimary Duties:Provide direct care utilizing professional assessment skills, the nursing process, and established school health protocolsServe as a health advocate for the studentsNotify parents of accident or illness and secure medical care for students in emergency cases (if parents or emergency contact cannot be reachedProperly administer medications to students at school according to district policy and proceduresEducate faculty and staff as needed on health related topicsProvide health counseling and instruction to individual studentsServe as a health liaison between school, physicians, parents and the communityParticipate in developing and implementing individualized education plans (IEP) in regards to health services as neededReview, enter and update immunization records according to state requirementsCompile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required, including clinic log sheetsRequisition supplies and equipment needed to maintain clinic inventoryComply with policies established by federal and state laws, Texas Department of Health rule, State Board of Education rule, and board policy in health services areaReport potential health and safety hazards to principal and Director of Health ServicesComply with all district and campus routines and regulationsProvides health education and anticipatory guidanceMaintain certification in CPR and first aidModel behavior that is professional, ethical and responsibleTravel as requiredEquipment Used:All equipment required to perform jobs, duties and tasks previously describedPhysical / Environmental Factors:The physical demands are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
