Montgomery & Associates (M&A) is seeking a

full-time

senior hydrogeologist

to join our California Team and support our project work based primarily out of our Monterey office. The position includes senior-level responsibilities and requires the ability to manage and provide technical oversight to multiple tasks and/or projects simultaneously. The person in this position will interact with M&A team leaders, project staff, project managers, administrative personnel, clients, and regulators.

Our company of highly respected water resources professionals, headquartered in Tucson, AZ, has been in business since 1984 and is growing, with recent expansions in the western U.S. and South America. In California, our team comprises 18 professionals located in 4 offices: Oakland, Sacramento, Monterey, San Luis Obispo, and Pasadena. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work with an enthusiastic team of water resource scientists and engineers throughout California and interact with our expert team of modelers and senior professionals in Tucson.

This position will support our Salinas Valley Basin Sustainable Groundwater Management Act (SGMA) program implementation. This work is led by a Program Manager in our Monterey office and supported by professionals from our other California and Arizona offices.

Work duties will include:

Managing and technically contributing to tasks and projects that focus on quantitative hydrogeology and groundwater resources management, including:

Supporting projects planning and implementation of SGMA

Designing and interpreting results of predictive modeling runs and supporting model updates

Developing hydrogeologic conceptual models and water budgets

Designing monitoring networks and interacting with field teams to implement monitoring programs

Meeting with regulatory agencies and water agencies

Data evaluations and preparation of technical reports

Senior review of technical reports

Support Program Manager and Task Managers with evaluating level of effort and scope of work related to new technical efforts

Directing, training, and mentoring junior staff

Interacting with and managing relationships with clients and other project stakeholders, including regulatory agencies

Preparing technical proposals and work plans for future work

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in hydrology, geology, or engineering; graduate degree preferred

Clear understanding of how to apply hydrogeologic principles to characterize and assess groundwater systems

Understanding of California water laws and regulations preferred

Ten or more years of experience in environmental and water resources consulting

Professional registration (P.G. or P.E.) preferred

Professional experience working with groundwater models preferred

Experience working on SGMA projects for local Groundwater Sustainability Agencies preferred

Task or project management experience

Demonstrated technical writing skills and ability to present technical information in group/meeting settings

Proficiency with standard analytical approaches and tools

Interest in engaging in professional organizations, including presenting at conferences

Current and valid California driver's license

Ability to legally work and reside in the United States

Monthly Base Pay Range:

$9,000 - $11,250

Estimated Annualized Compensation Including Bonuses:

$122,000 - $151,000

Compensation for qualified extra hours could further increase the estimate above.
