There's never been a better or more exciting time to become a BMC Patient Care Technician.Position: Patient Care TechnicianDepartment: M5WSchedule: 24 Hours (Day/Every Other Weekend)ABOUT THE Critical Care/ 5W IMCU DEPARTMENT AT BOSTON MEDICAL CENTER:BMC's Medical Step Down unit is a 27-bed unit providing care for intermediate level medical patients. Patients on this unit are complex cardiology patients, pericardial drains patients, TAVR patients, ventilated patients and patients transferred out of the MICU with complex medical issues.POSITION SUMMARY:As a Patient Care Technician in our Critical Care department, you will be a key member of the healthcare team at BMC. Under the direction and supervision of the registered nurse (RN) and in accordance with hospital policies, procedures, protocols, and standards of practice, our Patient Care Technicians provide direct clinical and support services. Using our patient-centered care model and uplifted by a supportive nursing organization, you will participate in the delivery of care to our patients and their families. You will also work cooperatively with all healthcare team members to provide a variety of support services to meet patient, family, and staff needs.JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:Perform a variety of appropriately delegated patient care interventions for patients in the Critical Care department and their families.Clinical services could include, but are not limited to: obtaining vital signs, bathing and feeding, dressing wounds, assisting with hygiene, cleaning rooms and linens, and emotional support.Perform a variety of environmental and inventory activities to ensure a safe, clean, and appropriately equipped environment for patients, visitors, and staff in the Critical Care dept.Contribute to the efficient operation of the Critical Care dept, ensuring quality patient/family clinical outcomes.JOB REQUIREMENTS:A high school diploma or GED certificateCertification in basic life support (BLS), including CPR certification (must be current or obtained within 30 days of employment)Ability to pass clinical competency testingPhysical ability to meet job responsibilitiesBasic math and computer proficiencyOne of the following:One year of previous experience as a Patient Care Technician in an acute hospital settingCurrently enrolled in a nursing program and have completed two cycles of clinical rotationCompleted an approved Patient Care Technician trainingCompleted an approved certified medical assistant trainingOne year of previous experience as an EMT or field medic (considered for adult ED positions only)Fluency in another language a plusPrevious medical/surgical experience preferredJOB BENEFITS:Competitive payTuition reimbursement programsHighly subsidized medical, dental, and vision insurance optionsHigh provider-to-patient ratios that often exceed state standards for quality and safetySupportive work environment with a focus on training, development, and growthAccess to Pathways, a leadership acceleration program increasing inclusion and diversity at the leadership level across Boston Medical Center Health SystemBoston Medical Center is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer.
