The Office of the Attorney General is seeking an experienced civil litigation attorney to serve as an Assistant Attorney General in the Office of Civil Rights section of the Civil Litigation Division. We offer the challenge and opportunity of public service, work-life balance, and an attractive compensation package inclusive of paid time off, paid holidays, health/dental/life insurance, retirement and more.The successful candidate will focus on identifying and bringing civil actions alleging violations of the Virginia Human Rights Act that involve pattern or practice of discrimination or raise an issue of general public importance in employment, places of public accommodation, including educational institutions, policing, and other areas covered by the VHRA. The position will also cover enforcement of the Virginia Voting Rights Law. The position requires the ability to conduct complex civil litigation in state circuit courts involving subject matter jurisdiction, adequacy and admissibility of evidence, proper application of judicial precedent, and the rules of civil procedure. The candidate will work closely with a team of attorneys, paralegal, and investigators and will assist with the remainder of OCR’s portfolio, which includes enforcing Virginia’s fair housing laws. This position is located in the Richmond, Virginia office.Minimum Qualifications

Admission to the Virginia State Bar required prior to commencing employment.The position requires exceptional written and verbal communication skills, proficiency in time management, the ability to manage a diverse and challenging caseload, and the flexibility to work both independently and as a team member.Candidates must also demonstrate the ability to work well under pressure and adjust priorities without close supervision.Additional Considerations

Three to five (3-5) years of civil rights or fair housing law experience is preferred, but other relevant experience will be considered.A working knowledge of federal and state civil rights laws, especially with regard to pattern and practice discrimination, is also preferred.Special Instructions
