Keck Medicine of USCHospitalLos Angeles, CaliforniaAs an integral part of the department, the Equipment Technician supports the clinical staff by cleaning, maintaining and coordinating the movement of the equipment for patient care needs. This individual will work closely with the Department clinical staff and management to ensure the daily availability of this related equipment and provide necessary communication regarding the status of equipment and PAR levels. Through collaboration with clinical staff and leadership, this individual will coordinate the movement of equipment to facilitate the daily schedule needs. Provides input into both operating and capital budgetary needs for equipment and ensures the general effectiveness of the department medical equipment.As an integral part of the operating room staff, the Equipment Technician supports the operating room staff by maintaining and coordinating the movement of the equipment for each surgical procedure throughout the day. This individual will work closely with the Biomedical Department to ensure the daily availability of surgical related equipment and provide necessary communication regarding the status of equipment when out for repair. Through collaboration with the Clinical Coordinators and Supervisors, this individual will coordinate the movement of equipment to facilitate the daily schedule and provide support to the clinical staff. The Equipment Technician will assist the Clinical Educator of the operating room by providing equipment-specific training to the operating room staff through in-services and one-on-one training. Provides input into both operating and capital budgetary needs for equipment and ensures the general effectiveness of the operating room equipment.Essential Duties:Through vendor training demonstrates current knowledge of specific equipment associated with surgical procedures and applies that knowledge in the preparation for its use.The Technician- Operating room Equipment is responsible for teaching members of the operating room staff principles of specific equipment and its set-up for surgical procedures.Provides daily maintenance and organization of equipment in the operating room.Through collaboration with the OR Supervisor and the Clinical Coordinators facilitates the daily movement of equipment for surgical procedures.At times directs the movement of equipment through the use of other ancillary operating room staff.Performs operating room checks to ensure the equipment set-up is complete and in line with the Clinical Coordinator's case outline.Works closely with the Media Specialists to ensure proper equipment arrangements in the operating rooms for specific procedures.Works closely with the Biomedical Department to ensure necessary equipment is in working order and when repairs are needed arranges for loaner equipment to be provided, as well as communicates these issues to operating room management and staff.Follows policies, Title 22 and The Joint Commission Standards.Provides orientation, training and continuing education of ancillary staff and provides a general education to all RN and STs in the use of designated equipment used in the operating room.Assists in resolving conflicts with equipment issues.Assists in updating preference cards requiring equipment to prevent conflicts through Cerner/Surginet system.Keeps operating room staff up to date on current issues related to equipment needs in specific specialties.Assists with annual budget related to equipment, supplies and capital requirements. Makes recommendations that enhance resource utilization within the department.Acts as liaison between nursing, anesthesia, operating room Technicians, surgeons and all other ancillary services regarding any equipment-related issues.Maintains supplies and equipment on a continuous basis, ensuring they are organized, cleaned, and outdated items disposed of.Participates actively in PI activities.Performs other duties as assigned.Required Qualifications:High school diploma or equivalent.2 - 3 years of experience working in the surgery field and with surgical equipment.Strong organization and time management skills.Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Demonstrated ability to effectively work with physicians, staff, and patients.Preferred Qualifications:Associate's degree in a related field.Required Licenses/Certifications:Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) - If no card upon hire, one must be obtained within 30 days of hire and maintained by renewal before expiration date. (Required within LA City only)The hourly rate range for this position is $18.20 - $30.97.
