General Summary: The Senior Associate Director, Prospect Research manages a prospect research team responsible for increasing the size and quality of the prospect pool, with an emphasis placed on high-level Major ($100K-$4.9M) and Principal ($5M+) Gift prospects. They work in close partnership with the Director, Prospect Development and Campaign Management to guide overall prospect research strategy.

The Senior Associate Director manages and conducts prospect research on individual prospects and donors, including wealth-related insights produced for the dean, deputy deans, and other senior leaders, and capacity ratings and other materials to support frontline development officers’ cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship efforts. They maintain best practice methodologies for research techniques and process documentation.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

Provide program leadership for the Prospect Research Team including coaching of team members and creation and execution of projects and processes.

Supervise the execution of all prospects related to prospect research including prospect identification, capacity ratings, and wealth screening projects.

Facilitate the execution of the wealth and capacity portion of briefing materials on individual prospects for the dean, deputy deans, and other Booth senior leaders for advancement-related meetings.

Supervise, manage, and mentor two Senior Assistant Directors, Prospect Research, strategically identifying daily tasks, projects, and professional development in collaboration with the Director, Prospect Development and Campaign.

Work collaboratively with other members of the Advancement Operations Teams, fundraisers, and senior staff to implement prospect research strategies and identify specific research needs.

Use electronic and print resources to develop and synthesize information on prospects to produce clear profiles including background, career, financial capacity, philanthropic interests, and nature of their relationship to the University and Booth.

Identify new prospects in order to grow the Booth prospect pool, participating in strategic prospect identification projects as well as prospect strategy meetings when necessary.

Stay current on industry trends and practices through associations, professional colleagues, and other sources. Implement said trends to ensure that the team remains at the forefront of innovative and best practices.

Develop and demonstrate skill in reading and interpreting complex documents, including regulatory filings, and proficiency in terms used in the financial services industry.

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree required.

A minimum of five years of industry experience in prospect research required.

A minimum of two years of management experience required.

Experience with fundraising databases such as Salesforce required.

Experience with prospect research tools and applications such as iWave, LexisNexis, Aidentified, Pitchbook, required.

Ability to motivate, lead, set objectives for, and manage the performance of a team required.

Ability to self-motivate and work well with and through others required.

Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously, set priorities, and meet short deadlines required.

Superior verbal and written communication skills and the demonstrated ability to articulate complex ideas clearly, accurately, and concisely required.

Knowledge of current trends in fundraising and alumni relations, including benchmarking and metrics required.

Strong attention to detail required.

Strong commitment to customer service required.

Scrupulous attention to matters of discretion and confidentiality required.

Proficiency with the Windows environment and standard MS Office suite required.

Willingness and ability to travel to campus and/or non-campus locations for university business required.

Willingness and ability to work evenings and weekends on occasion required.

Experience in an institution of higher education preferred.
