We are currently seeking a Division Safety Manager who will lead our safety efforts on multiple projects in our San Diego Area. The Division Safety Manager will monitor the onsite activities on multiple construction jobsites within the San Diego Area to ensure that all work is conducted at the highest level of safety and in accordance with company safety standards and Cal-OSHA safety standards. The Division Safety Manager will work with the Division Vice President or Division Manager, General Superintendent, Project Managers, Superintendents, and other field staff working on various projects throughout the area. Essential Functions Assist in providing jobsite orientation and safety training. Enforce safety standards according to IIPP. Ensure subcontractor compliance with jobsite safety regulations and requirements. Conduct incident investigations and provide reports. Follow up to make sure corrective action has been taken. Assist in conducting weekly Toolbox meetings. Coordinate Emergency Response and ensure employees receive medical treatment. Coordinate procurement and supply of jobsite postings and other HSE supplies and materials. Conduct site audits at least weekly. Working knowledge of CA MUTCD. Assist Project Managers with submittals. Provide daily report and document daily safety inspections of the jobsite. Ensure projects are complying with California Code 4216 (811 or Dig-Alert). Conduct daily safety observations accompanied with conversations about safe work behaviors. Coach front line supervisors and Superintendents on safety observations, safety meetings, Task Hazard Analysis, and Jobsite Safety Inspections. Provide safety and security material to personnel. Attend monthly safety meetings held by the Owner/Agency. Perform testing on noise, air flow and air quality, and also keep record of the testing. Other duties as assigned. Specific Job Knowledge, Skill and Ability Minimum of 5 years of Safety experience in a construction industry as a safety professional or supervisor with safety responsibility. Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) Certification preferred. STS-C Certification or better required. OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER training a plus. OSHA 30-hour Construction within the last 4 years. OSHA 510 or 500 certification within the last 4 years. First aid CPR training required, trainer preferred. Must have the flexibility to work at night 2 to 3 days a week - driving at night and working inside of traffic closures on freeways, highways and streets. Must have the ability to safely operate a vehicle, moving in and out of construction traffic lane closures and regular traffic at night. Ability to demonstrate working knowledge of OSHA standards regarding excavations, confined spaces, fall protection, hazard communication, rigging operations, and the ability to conduct awareness level training for each discipline. Have working knowledge of Causal Analysis methods. (Root Cause Analysis) Have solid interpersonal skills, must be able to work well with the construction project site team, owners and construction management firms. Must have the ability to speak with construction workers in a respectful, coaching manner. Must have the ability to use the power of persuasion to elicit behavioral change. Must be familiar with heavy civil construction tools, equipment, materials and methods of construction. Bi-Lingual a plus. Moderate Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Power Point, and Word. Efficient recordkeeping and submittals of required project safety documentation. Physical Requirements Sitting during study periods, meetings, seminars and training sessions. Seeing and observing at close proximity detailed technical specifications and at a distance in observing and making visual assessments at job sites. Walking job sites and other locations including excavations, scaffolds, roofs and elevated platforms to observe the work. Listening to conversations and responses at job sites, job offices and other locations where noise levels are present. Using phones, radios and hand signals. Lifting and carrying of training and clerical materials and safety equipment. Ability to drive safety vehicle to travel to job site visits and attend meetings on behalf of the company. Job involves exposure to all weather conditions for extended periods including hot, cold, wet and humid conditions as well as exposure to high noise levels and working in elevated or excavated areas. Job sites typically will include uneven surfaces and may require climbing ladders and scaffolding to review site safety equipment.
