Scripps Research is a nonprofit biomedical institute ranked as one of the most influential in the world for its impact on innovation. We are celebrating our 100-year legacy in 2024. This significant milestone marks a century of seminal discoveries in immunology, infectious diseases (such as COVID-19, flu, HIV), neuroscience, heart disease, cancer, and more. POSITION TITLE:

People Partner

POSITION SUMMARY:The People Partner is responsible for partnering with leaders and employees across the Institute and providing HR-related guidance and support to align business objectives within individual departments, resolve employee relations issues, and partner with management to enhance staff performance, development, and productivity.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:Elevate Performance: As a master coach, you'll empower business leaders with day-to-day HR guidance, focusing on performance management, team engagement, development, and best organizational practices.Strategic Partnership: Collaborate with leaders and team members to build strong relationships, achieve organizational objectives, and drive retention, all while maintaining a strategic outlook.Proactive Approach: Adopt a preventative stance by identifying and addressing employee relations issues and escalating them when necessary. This includes performance management, disciplinary investigations, and workplace conduct.Conflict Resolution: Work closely with HR and Legal to address and resolve employee/labor relations issues. Your goal: maximize productivity, preserve employee morale and minimize adverse impact.Data-Driven Insights: Harness the power of workforce analytics to understand the organization's talent health, make informed people decisions, spot trends, and proactively enhance collaboration among management and employees.Training and Development: Identify training needs and make recommendations to leadership for addressing these needs, ensuring continuous growth and development.Stay Ahead of the Curve: Keep yourself updated on the latest HR best practices and industry, federal, and state regulations. Implement new approaches to drive continual improvement in people and organizational development.Leadership in HR Processes: Play an active role in the performance review process, training & development, workforce planning, and succession planning.Develop a comprehensive strategy for establishing and optimizing a centralized reporting and analysis function aligned with organizational goals and objectives, working closely cross functionally with Finance and IT.Collaborate with senior leadership to identify key requirements and performance metrics to ensure both short-term and long-term successful organizational outcomes.Recruit, lead, and mentor team to execute reporting and forecasting initiatives effectively.Details of established essential functions for this position will be addressed/discussed during the interview process.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:Bachelor's degree in a related field of study preferred.Minimum of 5 years of HR experience, including at least 2 years as an HR Business Partner with a focus on employee relations, performance management, and leadership coaching.Understanding of California employment laws, regulations, and best business practices concerning people management, including training & development, performance management, progressive discipline, and separations.Possess strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to adapt your style to suit the audience.Maintain strict confidentiality and discretion when dealing with sensitive issues and information.Be analytically driven with excellent project management and organizational skills.Display knowledge and proficiency with HRIS systems, especially UKG (a plus).PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP certifications (a plus).Demonstrate proficient skills in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).This is an on-campus position requiring 4 days per week working onsite from our La Jolla campus, with flexibility to work 1 day per week remotely from home.

COMPENSATION:The expected hiring range for this position is $110,000 annually to $120,000 annually, commensurate with experience. Consideration will be given to experience that exceeds the listed requirements.
