SUMMARY:

As a member of a clinical-stage company, the Director, Finance plays a critical role in leading the accounting operations to build and scale the accounting function at Xilio. The Director, Finance will perform key elements of Xilio’s core transactional accounting and general ledger maintenance while maintaining ownership for the monthly and quarterly general ledger close process. He/She/They will deliver Finance Management, Financial Reporting and Compliance, and Leadership of the accounting function, including management of internal and external accountants.

The role requires in-depth knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and regulatory compliance. Experience with internal financial control design and Sarbanes-Oxley is expected. Strong critical thinking, organizational, communication, and relationship-building skills are essential.

Job Responsibilities:

Financial Management:

Lead and supervise the accounting team, overseeing operations in accounts payable, fixed assets, and general ledger accounting, ensuring accurate financial reporting, analysis, and compliance.

Manage financial closing processes (monthly, quarterly, and yearly), review/approve journal entries and account reconciliations, and monitor financial performance.

Manage treasury and banking activities, including ACH and wire payments and administration of bank accounts.

Develop and maintain accounting policies and procedures in accordance with GAAP and industry regulations, while managing finance systems and driving process improvements.

Collaborate with various departments, including FP&A for accrual processes, senior finance leaders for treasury and risk management, and external consultants for tax-related matters.

Assist the SVP, Finance and Accounting with equity-based compensation programs and technical accounting analyses, while ensuring adherence to internal controls and preparing supporting schedules as needed.

Financial Reporting and Compliance:

Prepare and review financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and internal controls.

Coordinate and support external audit activities, liaising with auditors and providing necessary documentation and explanations.

Develop and maintain strong internal controls over financial reporting that mitigate the risk of material misstatements and comply with SOX 404 regulations.

Team Leadership and Development:

Lead accounting team, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, and inclusion.

Mentor and guide team members, providing coaching, feedback, and professional development opportunities.

Promote cross-functional collaboration, working closely with other departments to ensure alignment with Xilio values and achievement of company goals.

Skills, Qualifications, and Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA preferred.

Significant experience (10+ years) in finance and accounting roles, preferably within the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry.

In-depth knowledge of accounting principles (GAAP), financial reporting, and regulatory compliance (e.g., SEC regulations). Experience with internal financial control design and/or Sarbanes-Oxley. Experience assisting with the preparation of public company financial statements and related disclosures.

Experience with ERP systems (NetSuite is preferred) and advanced proficiency in MS Excel.

Demonstrated success in prior work of consistently operating with a high level of integrity and ethics.

Strong critical thinking skills with ability analyze trends, identify risks and solve problems.

Detail-oriented with exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to present complex financial information to diverse audiences.

Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities effectively.
