Assistant Project Manager
to support all aspects of delivery for electrical and instrumentation work that may include procurement, contract management, change management, quality management, and issues management on a large wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) project in San Francisco, CA.
The Assistant PM must ensure work is performed on budget, on schedule, in accordance with the contract documents and other engineering standards. This position will report directly to the Senior Electrical PM.
The project involves new, cutting-edge technology in the US wastewater market called Thermal Hydrolysis. This highly sophisticated technology essentially converts the biosolids from the treatment process into renewable energy. When completed, this will be the largest Thermal Hydrolysis wastewater treatment plant in operation in the entire U.S.
Essential Functions Provide leadership and support to the Trade Package Project Managers and Site Superintendents. Procurement - Support Project Managers and Contracts Team in the development of trade and equipment procurement documents to ensure all trade contracts, services, and materials to perform specific tasks are secured and available when needed. Change Management - Coordinate with PMs and Superintendents to review and evaluate proposed change orders against the contract documents and to assess the validity of the proposed cost estimates for the work. Assist in the management of Time and Materials tickets where required on executed change orders and force account work. Scheduling - Support PMs in weekly progress updates with the trade contractors and program schedule team. Shop Drawings, RFIs, As-Built Drawings - Coordinate with Project Engineering team to ensure timely processing of submittals and RFIs and accurate maintenance of As-Built drawings for assigned trade packages. Issues Management - Attend routine meetings and track critical issues requiring resolution to maintain construction progress. Drive issues to conclusion through active communications with responsible parties. Quality - Responsible for understanding quality requirements of assigned trade packages and coordinate with trade contractors and Program Quality team to ensure that quality activities are planned, executed, and documented according to contract requirements. Safety - Responsible for the safe conduct of MWH personnel to ensure a zero accident project. Ensure all site personnel meet minimum safety requirements (e.g. training, orientations, tools and equipment). Monitor craft compliance with project safety program requirements; document and ensure corrective measures are implemented. Work in a manner to ensure your personal safety and that of fellow employees by following company health and safety guidelines and policies.
Basic Qualifications A Bachelor of Science or higher university degree in engineering, construction management, or a related degree. An equivalent combination of experience, skills, and training may be substituted. 4+ years of experience in project engineering, site superintendent or trade package management specifically in electrical, controls, or instrumentation. Familiarity with preparing contract scoping documents, reading contract drawings and specifications, and basic construction principles and practices.
Preferred Qualifications Electrical experience in the water/wastewater industry, or similar industries. On-site construction field experience.
Compensation The anticipated salary range is between $125,000-150,000/yr.
