POSITION SUMMARY

:Under the general supervision of the Antenatal Testing Unit Manager, the Ultrasound Technologist provides skill and initiative to the department mission through interactions with staff, Supervisor and others as necessary. Primary duties are to work as a Technologist generating diagnostic images for physicians, while also implementing policy and procedures as determined necessary through Supervisor and the Medical Director of the department.Position: OB/GYN Ultrasound TechnologistDepartment: Antenatal TestingSchedule: Full TimeESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:Performs procedures as required and necessary for proper departmental workflow. high quality ultrasound exams.Prepares patient for exams as required and insures patient comfort and modesty at all times.Follows all departmental established and appropriate policies and procedures as required.Upholds the principles of ALARA ensuring that power settings are adjusted appropriately so that the patient’s exposure to ultrasound energy is kept

A chievable.Performs duties as required in all areas of department or outside when appropriate for the hospital mission as determined by leadership.Work schedules as required either through regular scheduled hours or on-call as required for department needs.Performs appropriate studies as determined through policy and procedure. Follows requisition in terms of providing proper study for patients. Ensures that exams requested match patient condition and/or history and calls or asks proper persons for more information as necessary to perform the proper study.Provides service and care to patients of all ages.Maintains equipment and maximizes up time by initiating service calls with the equipment vendor and notifying leadership to maximize equipment up time, sustain quality patient care, and minimize dollar impact to the hospital.Maintains a customer service, patient care focus. Supports and promotes customer service initiatives implemented by leadership.Handles patient complaints professionally. Reports complaints to supervisor.Handles telephone calls and requests for services over the telephone and through other means both professionally and appropriately.Treats patients and fellow staff with dignity and respect and reports any/all problems to supervisor.Accommodates patient needs and staffing needs and requirements through flexibility in scheduling and timeliness of studies.Understands the requirements of the department by providing services to patients not only in performing of studies but also in providing any/all information on reports as necessary and appropriate.Keeps discussions around patients to a minimum and ensures that patients are not subjected to departmental conversations and any inappropriate behavior.Monitors patient conditions and if/when conditions are determined assistance may be required of an employee to take actions to facilitate the best course of action to include: nursing involvement, other assistance, further monitoring and/or other patient focused solutions.Accurately and thoroughly document procedures and exams though imaging and reporting. Complete any necessary ancillary forms such as lab slips, patient handouts and billing slips.Utilizes hospital's Values as the basis for decision-making and to facilitate the division's hospital mission.Follows established hospital infection control and safety procedures.Performs other duties as assigned or as necessary.JOB DESCRIPTION CHARACTERISTICSEDUCATION:Associate's degree (or equivalent from two-year college) or certificate program in Ultrasound Technology.CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:RDMS required. Registry eligible candidates will be eligible for hire but must be RDMS certified within one year of employment.EXPERIENCE:1+ years experience in high-risk obstetrical ultrasound is preferred.KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:Work requires knowledge of principles and procedures of Ultrasound. Ability to perform Level 2 Fetal Anatomy ultrasounds, biophysical profiles, growth assessments, and assisting the attending physician with ultrasound guided procedures.Work requires excellent interpersonal and communication skills sufficient to interact effectively with patients and all/any apprehensions, to instruct students and to provide technical supervision to staff technologists.Equal Opportunity
