The Communications Specialist will support the creation of a wide variety of materials in collaboration with the Port’s communication team. The ideal candidate is a proactive self-starter who is passionate about creating well-written, meaningful, engaging, and shareable digital content and finding new and innovative ways to tell the Port’s story. In addition to shaping the presence of our digital experiences, a key focus of this role includes managing the websites of the Port of Tacoma and the Northwest Seaport Alliance, working to ensure they remain up-to-date, visually appealing, user-friendly, informational, and maintain brand consistency.Responsibilities:

Conceptualize, research, write, edit, and produce content reflecting the Port’s strategic objectives, projects, and initiatives for use in a variety of communication channels.Actively solicit story opportunities within the Port and manage production from conception to final publication, working collaboratively with staff subject matter experts to develop program-specific content.Proactively update and manage the websites of the Port of Tacoma and the Northwest Seaport Alliance, continuously looking for innovative ways to improve content, presentation, and usability.Monitor website performance and troubleshoot website issues, in collaboration with IT.Manage and maintain digital archives (photo and video library).Assist with all other Communications Department tasks as needed, such as photography, videography, events, newsletters, fact sheets, social media posting, etc.Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in film/video production, media arts, communications, marketing, journalism, advertising, or a related field required. An additional four (4) years of relevant experience may substitute for a bachelor’s degree.Minimum of two (2) years of communication, marketing, and/or public relations experience, to include experience developing communications in a corporate or government environment is required. Professional experience managing websites, writing, editing, proofing, and design, as well as experience curating and developing eye-catching video and multimedia content is also required.Qualifications:

A positive personality with strong interpersonal and communications skills; highly organized and detail-oriented; strong time management skills to achieve successful implementation of tasks and projects; ability to work cross-functionally with all levels of the organization.Ability to identify new and emerging technical and communication tools and tactics for conveying Port messages in an ever-shifting digital landscape.Experience navigating and creating content for websites and supporting staff with technical and content creation needs.Ability to act as liaison with the Port’s contract website vendor and maintain proficiency in technology and products provided by vendor.Ability to monitor site performance and analyze user engagement and behavior to inform content strategies.Ability to use analytics tools to recommend and implement strategies that expand audience engagement and to stay current on the latest industry trends and improve user experience.
