The Decedent Affairs Coordinator documents information in support of complex case management. Manages the Decedent Affairs process and communicates information to the Decedent Affairs team. Manages the activities of patient deaths from the time of death to the final disposition of remains. Performs critical identification functions to ensure the right body goes to the right funeral home. INOVA Fairfax Medical CampusRequirements for consideration:Bachelor's degree (or relevant experience in lieu of degree equivalent to 4 years)Years of Experience:Two years of experience in healthcare, social work or science field settingJob ResponsibilitiesDocuments appropriate interventions, goals for disposition and plans for services in Decedent Affairs records.Consults with Risk Management regarding sensitive issues.Keeps manager and departmental staff informed of decisions, changes and other relevant information regarding death administration.Makes determinations on each death and reports all appropriate deaths to the County Medical Examiner and/or State Medical Examiner in accordance with state laws.Provides appropriate information to inquiries from distant family members, neighbors, friends, employers and external agencies including the American Red Cross, police, and funeral homes.Identifies the person legally responsible for disposition decisions utilizing multiple sources including clinical medical records, family members and documents as appropriate.
