Description

As a HID firmware engineer working on many of Apple's input devices ( Keyboards, Trackpads, mice, pencils, etc ), you will be expected to: Architect, implement, and maintain complex firmware designs Write clean, easy to understand, robust, and sustainable code tailored for embedded systems Bring up proof-of-concept prototypes and demos to help Design teams explore and evaluate new interactions Help select microcontrollers and peripherals, define power management strategies, and review schematics with the Hardware team Negotiate, specify and document communication protocols, system states, and feature requirements with Hardware and Software teams Collaborate with the Quality Engineering team to inform and craft their white-box testing

BS and a minimum of 3 years relevant industry experienceSolid C or C++ coding ability for Embedded SystemsExperience interfacing microcontrollers with analog and digital sensorsAbility to apply software best-practices to firmware design in bare-metal or RTOS environmentsProven capability in applying coding best-practices to firmware designsWorking knowledge of one or more communication protocols (e.g., UART, I2C, SPI, USB)Proven board bring-up and debug skillsExperience with CI/CD pipelines applied to consumer facing, software-enabled hardware productsIndependent work ethic with strong attention to detailExcellent communication and teamwork skills

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with one or more microcontrollers cores ( ARM, AVR, MSP430, PIC, 8051 )Experience interfacing microcontrollers with sensors and actuators (e.g. LRA, VCA, Piezo) a plusFamiliarity with embedded security concepts and practices such as Cryptography, Secure boot loading, etc preferred, not requiredDebugging skills with JTAG, SWD, Oscilloscopes, and Logic analyzersSome assembly experience is helpful

Pay & Benefits

At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $135,400 and $250,600, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
