About the Opportunity

The Assistant Director of Undergraduate Admissions will help advance Northeastern University’s efforts to attract and enroll the most qualified undergraduate students. This individual will design and implement an effective recruitment strategy within a specified domestic and/or international travel territory as well as evaluate applicants for admission into the University. The recruitment strategy will include travel within assigned territories to convey key institutional highlights in order to attract and subsequently enroll first-year and transfer students. Responsibilities include counseling and advising students and families regarding the admission process, formal and informal presentations for both small and large groups of prospective and admitted students, and maintaining relationships with school counselors as well as community-based organizations while managing the territory throughout the admission cycle. The Assistant Director will work closely with various stakeholders to communicate admissions-related information and serve as an advocate of the constituency in the admissions process.

QUALIFICATIONSExcellent interpersonal and customer service skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with high school students, their families, and school counselors in a variety of settings.Superior written, verbal communication, and organizational skills along with the ability to speak and write clearly and persuasively.Ability to interact with people from diverse backgrounds and be sensitive to multicultural and socioeconomic issues.Experience making compelling presentations to small and large groups.Proven ability to successfully work independently as well as part of a team.Bachelor's degree or equivalent and at least one year of experience in a student-facing role in college admissions, secondary school admissions, or a related experience in another higher education setting required.Valid U.S. driver's license and clean driving record.The ability to lift and move recruitment materials weighing up to 30 pounds.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSExperience with recruitment programming, travel scheduling and budgeting, admissions counseling, and application evaluation.Demonstrated proficiency or comfort with various technologies (such as Microsoft 365), admissions database/software, and analyzing data.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Territory Management and Recruitment

Design and implement an effective goal-driven recruitment strategy for an assigned geographic area. The strategy should include efficient and cost-effective travel management in these territories while meeting office and University expectations and priorities. Attend programs, presentations, and regional events. Meet with, counsel, and inform prospective students, families, and school counselors. Follow-up and evaluation expected upon return from travel.

Application Evaluation and Selection

Specialized Projects and Responsibilities

Coordinate and manage specific project(s) that contribute to, and support the overall function of, the full admissions cycle. Work closely with assigned stakeholders to communicate key information at various points throughout the admissions cycle. Effectively manage all assigned project(s) including setting goals in collaboration with their supervisor, developing and managing timelines, achieving desired results, and meeting all set deadlines and expectations.

Customer Service and Support

Communicate accurate information and effectively counsel all students, parents, school counselors, and other stakeholders in a timely, professional, and positive manner during all on and off-campus interactions including school visits, information sessions, college fairs, campus tours, prospective and admitted student events, counselor programming, written correspondence, email, and phone calls. Fully participate in all training and professional development opportunities. Support the overall day-to-day operations and workflow of the Admissions Visitor Center, and all other duties as assigned.
