The Privacy Engineering team was formed to build tools and provide guidance for engineering teams to collect, store, and analyze data responsibly. Security and privacy are closely linked, but where security focuses on the meta level of protecting data and assets as a whole, privacy zooms in to focus on the type of information collected, stored, and used, and how that information may violate expectations or breach trust. Privacy Engineering provides technology and abstraction layers to enable the employees at Block to do their job while being customer-centric and minimizing risks to the individual.As a Senior Software Engineer on the team at Block, you will build internal products and infrastructure to protect Block’s customers’ privacy and collaborate with many teams across Block, including product engineering teams, privacy counsel, and teams within security and platform engineering. You will be fully remote and report to the Data & Machine Learning Platform Engineering Manager. #LI-RemoteYou Will:Design and develop services or infrastructure that support data privacy initiatives and consumer’s privacy rights across Block’s engineering ecosystemHelp define the technological future of privacy at BlockCollaborate with other engineering teams incorporating privacy engineering products into their engineered solutionsProvide mentorship and reviews for engineering teams working with privacy technologiesContribute to the monitoring and stability of our team’s existing engineering solutionsQualifications

You Have:6+ years of software engineering experienceExperience writing quality scalable, robust and testable codeInterest in learning new technologies or languagesExperience cutting across services, infrastructure, or frameworks in novel ways to achieve security and privacy goalsEven Better:Experience designing novel yet robust security or privacy architecturesExperience developing or maintaining services or processes to meet data governance needsExperience designing novel ways to understand and surface data flow, access control, and riskExperience explaining complex technical security or privacy conceptsWe use and teach:JavaAdditional Information

Block takes a market-based approach to pay, and pay may vary depending on your location. U.S. locations are categorized into one of four zones based on a cost of labor index for that geographic area. The successful candidate’s starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.Zone A: USD $198,000 - USD $297,000Zone B: USD $188,100 - USD $282,100Zone C: USD $178,200 - USD $267,400Zone D: USD $168,300 - USD $252,500To find a location’s zone designation, please refer to this salary resource.
