Job Information:
The Putnam County District Attorney’s Office has an immediate opening for a full-time Assistant District Attorney. The position will involve handling appeals, FOIL requests, and local court. The ideal candidate should have 5+ years of experience handling criminal prosecutions or criminal defense, and 3+ years of appellate experience.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Handling a small appellate caseload (typically 3 – 6 appeals per year)
Responding to FOIL requests
Prosecuting felony or misdemeanor cases out of the assigned local court including preliminary proceedings, discovery practice, motion practice, grand jury presentations, pretrial hearings, through trial and sentencing
Candidates must possess good knowledge of criminal law, local and appellate court procedures; ability to perform legal research and prepare written documents (e.g., motions and briefs); ability to express arguments of the law by written and spoken word. Residency will need to be established in the 9 th
Judicial District. All applicants should include a writing sample(s) with their resume.
Qualifications:
Admission to the New York State Bar in good standing. 5+ years of experience handling criminal prosecutions or criminal defense, and 3+ years of appellate experience.
