GENERAL DESCRIPTIONThe Crime Victim Services Division of the Office of the Attorney General (OAG) oversees the appeals process, open records process, and subrogation in the Crime Victims’ Compensation Program. Drafts bills and amendments for legislative consideration. Assigns and supervises the work of others.This position may be eligible for telework up to three days per week once trained. Employees must have a secure, dedicated workspace with Internet service, maintain a reliable consistent work schedule, and be available for weekly meetings and group collaboration via Microsoft Teams and other applications during regular business hours.Flexible work arrangements may be considered relative to business needs after training.The OAG provides exemplary legal representation in diverse areas of law. Directs, plans, coordinates and monitors the appeals section of the Crime Victim Services Division.Oversees administrative law hearings, appeals reviews of compensation claims, and investigations of alleged fraud committed against the victims of crime fund.Assists with drafting, monitoring, analyzing, and advising in establishment of Crime Victims’ Compensation administrative rules, policies and procedures, and legal documents.Assists with drafting bills and amendments for legislative consideration and provides analysis of proposed law and potential fiscal costs.Oversees enforcement of applications involving Crime Victims’ Compensation subrogation rights.Oversees CVSD compliance with the Public Information Act.Assists in preparation of pre- and post- trial documents and provides legal advice and assistance in lawsuits arising from dissatisfaction of compensation claim decisions.Performs related work as assigned.Maintains relevant knowledge necessary to perform essential job functions.Attends work regularly in compliance with agreed-upon work schedule.Ensures security and confidentiality of sensitive and/or protected information.Complies with all agency policies and procedures, including those pertaining to ethics and integrity.Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSGraduation from an accredited law school with a Juris Doctor Degree (J.D.)Licensed as an attorney by the State of TexasMember in good standing with the State Bar of TexasTwo years of full-time experience as a licensed attorney working victim services lawKnowledge of laws, legal principles and practices relevant to victim issues mattersSkill in using a computer for word-processing and data entry/retrievalSkill in handling multiple tasks, prioritizing, and meeting deadlinesSkill in effective oral and written communicationSkill in exercising sound judgment and effective decision makingAbility to receive and respond positively to constructive feedbackAbility to work cooperatively with others in a professional office environmentAbility to provide excellent customer serviceAbility to arrange for personal transportation for business-related travelAbility to work more than 40 hours as needed and in compliance with the FLSAAbility to lift and relocate 30 lbs.Ability to travel (including overnight travel) up to 5%PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSFour years of full-time experience as a licensed attorney working victim services lawKnowledge of state and federal laws related to purchasing, contracting, and grant and management standardsAbility to proficiently read, write, and speak in SpanishTO APPLYTo apply for a job with the OAG, electronic applications can be submitted through CAPPS Recruit.
