OngoingGENERAL DESCRIPTIONThe OAG’s Antitrust Division is seeking to hire an experienced, self-driven attorney capable of thriving in a collaborative work environment and independently overseeing cases with complex legal and factual issues. The Antitrust Division is charged with investigating and prosecuting violations of the Texas Free Enterprise and Antitrust Act and federal antitrust statutes. The Division’s caseload consists of highly complex and high-profile investigations and litigation which may involve antitrust violations such as monopolization, conspiracies among competitors, or anticompetitive mergers. Matters investigated or litigated can be local, regional, or national in scope and may be coordinated with other state attorneys general, the Federal Trade Commission, or the U.S. Department of Justice. Licensed attorneys with a demonstrable interest and/or experience in antitrust enforcement or litigation are encouraged to apply.The OAG is a dynamic state agency with over 4,000 employees throughout the State of Texas. Assistant Attorneys General (AAGs) experience the challenge and honor of public service while enjoying a healthy work-life balance; hands-on legal experience; and engaging camaraderie in Austin, the scenic and lively capital of Texas.ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONSAssistant Attorney General III:Conducts entry level to complex antitrust and related litigation in both state and federal courtsInitiates and conducts antitrust and related law investigations, including directing investigator and economist activityProvides antitrust and related information to state and local governmentsPerforms all phases of civil litigation of antitrust cases including the drafting of petitions, motions, pleadings, orders, briefs, discovery, and memorandumPerforms or directs legal research and report findings and conclusionsAssists in or coordinates others in preparing cases for trialRepresents the Office of the Attorney General before state or federal district and appellate courtsPrepares or coordinates the preparation of legal briefs, pleadings, and other legal documentsProvides legal advice, counsel and assistance to client state agencies, local prosecutors or law enforcement entitiesCommunicates with representatives of state agencies and consumersAnalyzes entry level to moderately complex factual and legal issues and develops evidence for filing of antitrust casesPerforms related work as assignedMaintains relevant knowledge necessary to perform essential job functionsAttends work regularly in compliance with agreed-upon work scheduleEnsures security and confidentiality of sensitive and/or protected informationComplies with all agency policies and procedures, including those pertaining to ethics and integrityAssistant Attorney General IV:

All the above functions for an AAG III PLUS:Manages a high volume of litigation cases and investigationsAssists with training and mentoring less tenured staffMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSAssistant Attorney General III:Education: Graduation from an accredited law school with a Juris Doctor (JD) degreeLicensed to practice law by the State Bar of TexasMember in good standing with the State Bar of TexasExperience: Two years of full-time experience as a licensed attorney working in the following (or closely related) fields: antitrust, complex civil litigation, commercial litigationKnowledge of antitrust law and legal principles and practicesSkill in handling multiple tasks, prioritizing, and meeting deadlinesSkill in effective oral and written communicationSkill in exercising sound judgment and effective decision makingAbility to receive and respond positively to constructive feedbackAbility to work cooperatively with others in a professional office environmentAbility to provide excellent customer serviceAbility to work in person at assigned OAG work location, perform all assigned tasks at designated OAG work space within OAG work location, and perform in-person work with coworkers (e.g., collaborating, training, mentoring) for the entirety of every work week (unless on approved leave)Ability to arrange for personal transportation for business-related travelAbility to work more than 40 hours as needed and in compliance with the FLSAAbility to travel (including overnight travel) up to 5%Assistant Attorney General IV:

All of the above qualifications for an AAG IV plus:Experience: One additional year of full-time experience as a licensed attorney working in the following (or closely related) fields: antitrust, complex civil litigation, commercial litigationPREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSExperience: Antitrust matters or other document-intensive complex civil litigationKnowledge: Laws and legal principles and practices relevant to Texas and federal antitrust and trade regulations statutesAbilities: provide expertise in specific and relevant areas of law to Executive Administration, division management, and division attorneys; handles or directs high-profile and/or complex litigation affecting the Antitrust Division; and serves as a mentor to division attorneysTO APPLYTo apply for a job with the OAG, electronic applications can be submitted through CAPPS Recruit.
