The
Senior Manager, Corporate Accounting & Consolidations
supports the preparation of the consolidated financial results of the University of Chicago Health System and related partnerships. This position is responsible for overseeing the accurate delivery of the consolidated financial statements. This role also supports the preparation and audit of quarterly debt compliance and financial statement reporting requirements, in partnership with our Treasury department, and ensures timely delivery to our bond and debt holders. More broadly, this position also supports the monthly close process with the Shared Services Accounting Team, focusing on corporate accounting for Investment, Debt, Pledges, Eliminations and Partnerships, along with participation in budgeting, forecasting, and reporting processes, ensuring proper documentation and support. The Senior Manager must develop and maintain strong collaborative relationships with departments and individuals both internally and with external joint venture partner finance and accounting teams. The individual will work with the Associate System Controller in building out a financial reporting framework and processes that will execute a shared services process for financial reporting.
Essential Job Functions
Lead and participate in the month-end close process including the monthly accounting for Investments, Debt, Pledges, Insurance, Eliminations and Partnerships for the health system in preparation for the issuance of monthly consolidated financial statements and related schedules. Support the preparation & completion of a monthly financial reporting package with insights into key business operating results and trends.
Ensure that UCM’s interest in Joint Ventures are properly accounted for and reported by UCM in accordance with US GAAP. Includes managing the research and collaboration with external parties (JV Accounting, JV Partners, Tax, Auditors, etc.) regarding technical GAAP questions, significant transactions, financings, distributions, impairments, reporting considerations and capital calls. Review and advise on consolidation requirements.
Partner with multiple UCM departments (Accounting, Legal, Revenue Cycle, Operations) to ensure joint venture agreements include required provisions to allow the accumulation and reporting by UCM of necessary financial information from JV partners.
Prepare required quarterly and annual reporting documents for partners, lenders, regulatory authorities, and other key stakeholders in a timely and accurate manner.
Prepare annual and/or ad hoc audit work papers including all financial statement and audited schedules and related footnotes in compliance with the health system’s Financial Reporting Policies, Procedures within required deadlines. Ensure proper controls are in place to effectively manage compliance with UCM’s financial policies for the consolidated financial statements.
Required Qualifications
CPA or CFA certification.
Bachelor's degree in Accounting and Finance.
Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
Ability to manage several high priority assignments/tasks to completion.
Proficiency in financial analysis, reporting tools, use of Excel and other analytical tools.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, ability to work independently and as a team to solve problems and raise issues and drive continuous improvement.
Preferred Qualifications
Non-profit accounting experience.
Experience working with a Big 4 firm.
