University Advancement is seeking aDirector of Development, University Advancement, to join its team. Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Development, the incumbent will be responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive fundraising strategies for securing financial support from a portfolio of major gift and corporate and foundation prospects.
The ideal candidate must have the ability to build productive relationships with a variety of constituents through individual prospects, corporations, foundations, and communities surrounding USC. Demonstrated experience cultivating and soliciting major gifts is essential, and campaign experience is highly desirable.
This is a hybrid position under our current work arrangement plan, with the expectation of on-site presence in our downtown Los Angeles office (USC Tower).
Responsibilities
Working both independently and collaboratively with the Central Major Gifts team, as well as with other USC schools and units, to create and implement strategies for donor identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
Managing a portfolio of approximately 120 prospects consisting of individuals, corporations, and foundations.
Preparing annual development and communication plans.
Proposal development, including researching, drafting, and presenting formal fundraising proposals to major donors and prospects.
Ensuring compliance with all university fundraising policies, goals, and procedures, including following all protocols for prospect and donor management established and implemented by University Advancement.
Representing USC University Advancement at professional and university meetings, seminars and/or conferences for professional development.
Assuming and achieving annual fundraising activity and financial goals.
Maintaining strong relationships with deans, faculty, and staff, both across the university and within University Advancement.
Perform other duties, as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree.
5 years of experience in major campaign, fundraising, and/or volunteer management.
Demonstrated track record of personally closing gifts of $100,000+.
Excellent communication skills, including public speaking.
Ability to build bridges and strong collaborative relationships across a complex organization with astuteness and agility.
Demonstrated ability to think strategically and creatively about engaging donors as well as developing plans of action and follow through.
Knowledge of corporation, foundation, and government funding sources and practices.
Willingness to travel, with weekend and evening work expected.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree.
7 years major campaign, fundraising, and/or volunteer management.
Expertise in major campaign fundraising, preferably at a complex research university.
Experience with Southern California donor community.

The budgeted salary range for this position is $122,600 – $135,600.
