An experienced HVAC/Refrigeration Pipefitter is responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVAC/R) systems in various commercial, industrial, or residential settings. This role involves working with various types of pipes, fittings, and equipment to ensure efficient climate control and refrigeration systems.This position will require travel, overnight hotel stays and a combination of days and nights. Kalos pays for travel time and hotel stays for our employees. Key Responsibilities:Pipe Installation: Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications to plan pipe layout and installation. Measure and cut pipes, tubing, and ducts to the required length and angle. Assemble and install pipes, fittings, and fixtures such as compressors, condensers, evaporators, and expansion valves. Ensure proper insulation and sealing of pipes to prevent energy loss and refrigerant leaks. System Maintenance: Conduct routine inspections to identify and address system malfunctions, leaks, or inefficiencies. Perform preventive maintenance tasks such as cleaning coils, replacing filters, and lubricating components. Troubleshoot and diagnose HVAC/R system issues and recommend necessary repairs. Refrigerant Handling: Safely handle and recover refrigerants in compliance with EPA regulations. Charge and evacuate HVAC/R systems with the appropriate refrigerants. Perform leak detection and repair as needed. Welding and Soldering: Utilize welding and soldering techniques to join pipes and components securely. Ensure proper brazing and soldering procedures to prevent leaks and ensure system integrity. Testing and Balancing: Conduct system performance tests and balance air and water distribution to optimize HVAC/R systems' efficiency. Adjust controls, thermostats, and dampers to achieve desired temperatures and airflow. Documentation: Maintain accurate records of work performed, including equipment specifications, repairs, and maintenance schedules. Prepare reports for supervisors and clients as required. Safety: Adhere to safety guidelines, wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), and maintain a safe work environment. Identify potential safety hazards and take corrective actions. Collaboration: Work closely with other tradespeople, such as electricians and plumbers, to ensure seamless system integration. Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors to coordinate tasks and timelines. RequirementsProven experience as an HVAC/Refrigeration Pipefitter, typically at least 3-5 years of relevant experience.Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.Knowledge of various HVAC/R systems, equipment, and components.Welding and soldering skills, including the ability to use oxyacetylene and electric welding equipment.Familiarity with refrigerant handling and EPA regulations.Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.Physical stamina and the ability to work in various environmental conditions.Excellent communication and teamwork skills.Relevant certifications or licenses, such as a journeyman's license, are often preferred.Willingness to stay updated on industry trends and technologies through ongoing training.An experienced HVAC/Refrigeration Pipefitter plays a crucial role in ensuring the proper functioning of HVAC/R systems, contributing to the comfort and safety of various spaces.
