POSITION SUMMARY:
The Electrician II, Substation will report directly to the Substation General Foreman.
The position will be expected to operate equipment including but not limited to a backhoe, trencher, excavator, skid steer, bulldozer, and other various types of equipment for the construction, maintenance, and repair of electrical substation systems and equipment. In addition, this position will be expected to perform multiple tasks, including hand digging to different depths due to congestion and in areas where equipment can't access, and handling and installing products in ditches - including direct bury wire, steel pipes, and more.
This position is designated as a safety sensitive position.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Understand and comply with the Company s Code of Business Conduct and Ethics and other industry-specific professional and ethical conduct standards, if applicableWork safely while assisting in new construction and various tasks such as demolition, site preparation, excavating, backfilling, landscaping, trenching, pole setting, cable labeling, and other substation-related tasks (i.e., construction clean-up).Ability to concentrate on learning safety procedures, making up material, stocking trucks, and assisting other crew members.Assist with installing transformer and transformer banks, bus structures and switchgear, lines (underground/overhead), ground grid, control buildings, and other related substation material tasksOperators must be experienced in backhoe, trencher, excavator, skid steer, bulldozer, and other various types of equipment.Will work with man baskets, skid steers, shovels, compactors, backhoes, and other equipment.Frequently work around energized high voltage systems requiring skill and care to protect the lives of themselves and othersMaintain company vehicles, equipment, and tools in good working orderOperates small, motorized equipment including but not limited to chain saws, jackhammers, hydraulic tools, and hand tools.Works around hazardous equipment.Works near energized parts or equipment.Must be able to operate equipment in confined spaces.Exposed to traffic and may be required to have training on traffic flagging.Works around excessive noise from machines (backhoe, trencher, mini excavator, digger derricks, knuckle boom, jackhammers, and other equipment).Aid the crew in the completion of their duties.Learn the basic materials and equipment used in substation construction.Maintain cleanliness of the job site and equipmentOther duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisorsMust be able to handle various tools as well as proper maintenance of toolsMust be able to read blueprints or have the ability to learnOther duties as assignedEDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Diploma/certificate from High School, GED, or Line school required.Must be at least 18 years of age.Must have a valid driver's license.Must have Class A CDL or ability to obtain one.Preferred experience in electrical substations.WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMAND:
The work environment and physical demands characteristics represent those the employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be approved to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.This position involves Heavy Work: exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands and fingers to handle, feel, lift and grab; reach with hands and arms; push and pull; climb and balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl; talk, see clearly and hear.Work is performed outside and includes exposure to extreme cold, heat, inclement weather & noise.Willing to work in various locations across the state/country and for extended periods, when required. Travel up to 95%.Must be able to operate the various tools for the work (different manual digging devices, wrenches, hammers, come a long and handline, etc.).Must have the endurance necessary to perform these duties throughout a standard eight (8) or ten (10) hour day according to the schedule.Be on time and ready to work at the start of each standard shift.Must always wear personnel protective equipment. (i.e., Hard hats, safety glasses, safety harnesses, ear protection, fire retardant clothing, as required) and respirators when required.
