This role will provide strategic direction, oversight, and leadership of the international corporate tax function for a multinational, Fortune 1000 public company headquartered in Richmond, Virginia, with responsibility over all tax aspects of the company’s investment in foreign operations.
Responsibilities
Lead the international tax team via mentorship and continuous development, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and progress; team consists of six tax professionals located in the U.S., the U.K., Brazil, and Singapore.
Lead the team in preparation of the international portions of the U.S. federal income tax return (Forms 5471, 8858, 8991, 8992, 8993 and 1118, as applicable), including coordination with outside advisors as needed.
Lead the team in preparation of the international portion of quarterly and annual tax provision calculations in accordance with ASC 740, working closely with U.S. tax leadership to coordinate impacts on consolidated tax provision computations. .
Assist with the preparation, review, and filing of tax returns and payment of taxes in North America, Europe, Asia, Latin America, the Middle East and Africa, including coordination with local accounting teams. Activities include reviewing tax accounts and related reconciliations, participating in ruling/incentive requests, and interacting with local country tax advisors and tax authorities, as needed.
Monitor and analyze relevant U.S. and foreign tax legislation and judicial developments in order to assess impact and convey to management the impact of significant developments.
Advise company on tax implications of international operations, as well as coordinate U.S. tax laws with non-US tax laws, developing an optimal worldwide tax strategy.
Lead the accounting for and compliance obligations related to OECD BEPS Pillar 2.
Identify, analyze, and implement tax planning opportunities to mitigate tax risks.
Work with tax and legal teams to develop and maintain an optimal legal entity structure.
Support management in determining the tax impact of acquisitions and dispositions, as needed.
Lead and direct relationship with external service providers, audit teams, and consulting teams.
Partner with business leaders to identify opportunities for cash tax savings, effective tax rate reduction, and risk mitigation.
Identify opportunities for automation and increased efficiency.
QualificationsEducation & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required
Master’s degree in Accounting or Taxation preferred
CPA required
JD preferred
Strong team management skills and technical knowledge of U.S. federal tax laws and ASC 740, typically gained over 8 or more years of accounting experience and/or public company experience in roles of increasing responsibility
Experience working with multinational companies
Skills & Competencies:
Microsoft Office
SAP or other ERP experience
OneSource experience preferred
Effective oral and written communication
Must be a strong team player
Ability to respond to, prioritize effectively, and meet deadlines while maintaining a high standard of completeness and accuracy
Travel Requirements:
Approximately 1-2 times per year to mentor and develop team members and partner with regional controllers on business and tax matters, which could include domestic or international travel
Additional travel as needed to support the Accounting and M&A team
