Position Custom ScopeThe High Voltage Electrician performs full journey-level work related to the repair, maintenance, service, installation, modification, troubleshooting, inspection, and monitoring of a variety of medium and high voltage (>600V - 12.47KV) electrical distribution systems and associated industrial electrical equipment. Performs planned and emergency maintenance on a variety of medium and low voltage systems, including overhead and underground distribution systems, throughout the campus community and satellite substation. Maintains industrial electrical equipment of various voltages up to and including 12,470 volts (12.47KV); performs troubleshooting, as needed, on equipment such as generators, transformers, Medium Voltage (MV) and Low Voltage (LV) switchgear, breakers, batteries, DC systems, and Motor Control Centers (MCC) to identify and resolve electrical equipment problems. Maintains clear and accurate documentation of all inspections, testing and maintenance (corrective and/or preventative) performed. Updates equipment documentation, specifications and drawings, as needed. Reviews and updates all shop logs, both paper and electronic according to updates and changes. Responds to emergency situations to mitigate and/or resolve immediate electrical concerns or safety issues. Reviews and creates blueprints/drawings, and specifications for new construction and retrofit/renovation projects according to building code requirements. Responds to emergency situations during or after hours for the purposes of resolving immediate safety concerns. Performs all job duties in adherence with University and departmental safety guidelines. Maintains a positive attitude and communicates effectively with colleagues, supervisors, staff, faculty and students.

Electrical Maintenance (High Voltage): Works in and around industrial electrical equipment of various voltages up to and including 12,470 volts (12.47KV). Inspects, maintains, tests, repairs, operates, troubleshoots and replaces 4160V and 12.47KV equipment. Performs a variety of electrical functions on medium and high voltage electrical distribution systems; troubleshoots, repairs, installs, maintains and services medium and low voltage electrical distribution systems and associated equipment; operates, inspects and performs preventative maintenance on medium voltage overhead and underground distribution systems, including transformers, circuit interrupters, reclosers, capacitors, voltage regulators, medium voltage switches, and supporting hardware. Performs a variety of electrical functions including switching operations, inspection of equipment, monitoring and assessing the reliability of the medium and low voltage electrical systems. Performs layout, constructs, maintains, operates, tests, and repairs a network of underground electric utility distribution system, main power substations, interconnected circuits, permanently installed and portable stand-by power systems >600 volts. Performs electric utility distribution system switching operations to transfer system loads, isolate components, de-energize equipment, and install safety grounds. Installs, connects, tests, operates, modifies, repairs and replaces auxiliary support equipment in Sub-stations, Switch Stations and associated buildings. Performs troubleshooting and repairs of electrical systems and equipment. Serves as technical subject matter expert on practical work matters related to electrical work. Coordinates work with customers, project managers, other crafts, and inspectors; inspects job sites and reviews detailed plans, drawings and oral directions to plan work.60 %

Electrical Maintenance Support: Provides support to Electricians, as needed, performs maintenance and repair on electrical systems such as generators, transformers, motors, Medium Voltage (MV), Low Voltage (LV) switchgear, etc. Maintains, repairs and installs electrical systems such as panels, controls, sensors, electrical systems, conduit, motors, operators, and wiring. Performs troubleshooting on equipment such as generators, transformers, switchgears, breakers, computerized lighting systems, Motor Control Centers (MCC), etc. to identify potential or actual electrical equipment problems. Repairs and rewires systems according to building codes and safety regulations. Performs preventive maintenance on line and low voltage systems. Performs installation of new or modified electrical wiring and devices; troubleshooting, shop fabrications, predictive and preventive maintenance, inspections, test operations, services repairs or replacement. Participates in the design of assemblies, systems, equipment and/or controls, electrical and/or mechanical. Prepares drawings in detail showing measurements and materials with information obtained from blueprints and verbal instructions. Fabricates, places, and terminates various types of busses, cables, conductors, and wires. Installs, connects, tests, operates, modifies, repairs and replaces circuit breakers, controls, fuses, motors, outlets, signaling devices, switches, thermostats, timers and wiring devices. Maintains electrical components and systems.20 %

Shop Support: Maintains working knowledge of the proper and safe usage of electrical equipment and maintenance skilled trade. Keeps track of shop materials/parts. Performs computer input within the work order system for recording of labor and materials used in work performed; maintains clear and accurate documentation of all inspections, testing and maintenance performed. Updates equipment documentation, specifications and drawings as needed. Cleans truck/shop and maintains organization of materials and tools; performs routine maintenance or coordinates for repair or replacement of tools and equipment, as required. Accounts for shop parts/supplies inventory and reports supply needs to be restocked. Consults with supervisor and/or lead for technical information, as needed. Interprets prints, schematics, wiring diagrams, flow charts and written descriptions of functions and project requirements. Supports maintenance projects and programmatic work assignments. Adheres to the scheduling and completion of work assignments through the work order system. Maintains accurate work order records and completes work orders and/or paperwork in a neat and timely manner. Defines and describes materials, tools and/or equipment, work methods and task sequences. Prepares detailed estimates including labor and materials, and prepares lists of materials; obtains materials and equipment, as required. Participates in safety and other trainings as required. Performs all job duties in adherence to all University and Departmental safety guidelines.10 %

Communication & Customer Service: Serves as liaison with clients, relaying their needs and requirements to the appropriate department or supervisor. Maintains a positive attitude and communicates effectively with colleagues, supervisors, staff, faculty and students. Communicates and reports to a supervisor and/or staff regarding any potential issues, not limited to potential safety hazards (e.g. broken glass, regulated materials, damaged steps, excess water, fire, etc.), or liabilities during the day-to-day operations. Contacts Facilities Services teams, as necessary, when further action is required. Responds to customer complaints and requests for information. Works with customer and campus personnel to accurately define the nature of the problem, determine the appropriate course of action, make recommendations and follow up to ensure resolution has been effective.10 %
