Typical Day in the Life

A typical day as a Tax Senior Manager working with exempt organizations might include the following:Oversee a team of staff to serve exempt organization clients across all segments of the nonprofit industry.Assist in the management and delivery of client projects, including review and analysis of client data, preparation of required calculations, review of supporting documents and completion of IRS filings.Work with staff to ensure tax returns are completed correctly and by the required deadline.Review annual information returns for exempt organization clients including Form 990, Form 990-T and Form 990-PF (and related state returns).Manage numerous client expectations to ensure tax returns and other projects are completed correctly and by the required deadline.Provide consulting services related to exempt organization issues such as unrelated business income, exemption applications, compensation and benefits, private foundation excise taxes, corporate restructurings.Assist with analysis of alternative investments for foreign and state reporting issues and assist with state and foreign returns.Interface with clients and approach client interactions with maturity and discretion.Participate in audit planning meetings, client interviews and client board meetings.Work collaboratively with audit teams to complete Uncertain Tax Position memos and review applicable financial statement tax footnotes.Listen to client needs and recognize additional services that could provide value.Proactively recognize problems and risks and identify alternate solutions to client situations.Perform special tax projects and research for clients.Communicate with clients, audit teams, other tax professionals and other Eide Bailly Specialty Service providers.Develop and present on technical issues for internal and external seminars and trainings.Participate in professional association meetings and forums.Coach or mentor staff members to assist with enhancing their skills and further developing their career.Develop and manage client relationships.Network, build relationships and attract new clients or business for the Firm.Bill clients for the services and guidance provided.Who You Are

You have a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or J.D. (required); Master's or LL.M. in Taxation preferred.You have 10+ years of tax experience with exempt organizations.You have a valid Certified Public Accountant license preferred, but not required if JD.You enjoy keeping up to date on the ever-changing tax industry's regulations and policies.You are proficient in tax research.You have a knack for solving problems and easily notice issues while bringing solutions to the table.You take pride in helping others and are passionate about working with nonprofits.You have knowledge of, and experience working with, tax-exempt organizations and high net worth individuals.You have the ability to read a financial statement and understand accounting principles.You possess excellent oral and written communication skills.You are a self-starter and are able to work independently.You hold yourself to high ethical standards and maintain client confidentiality.You delegate work to the right level setting clear expectations around results and timelines.You understand how to individualize your approach when managing staff.You use effective listening and questioning skills when talking with clients to understand their needs.You have strong written and oral communication skills.Clients trust you.You are motivated to advance in your career and look forward to growing and managing a book of business.
