Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions:

Performs manual skilled tasks involved in the maintenance, repair, rehabilitation and new construction of concrete streets, sidewalks, ramps, curbs, gutters, catch basins, manholes, surface inlets, curb inlets, junction boxes and riprap. Operates such equipment as an air compressor, concrete saw, concrete mixer, chain saw, gas detector, electric drill and laser level; operates hand tools required to form, construct and finish concrete. Must have proficient knowledge in the operation of equipment such as: backhoe, mini excavator, track hoe, and skid steer. Replenishes supplies and may supervise employees.

Other Job Functions:

Light vehicle maintenance; clean tools, wash vehicles, perform other duties as requested. Working Conditions

This position is considered essential during emergency situations.

Works outside in all kinds of weather including extreme cold, heat and temperature swings, is exposed to extreme and constant noise; works in trenches/ditches and manholes; is exposed to mechanical and explosive hazards; exposed to fumes/odors, dust/mites, chemicals, and gas vapors. Must be available to work Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM. Must be available to work extended hours as needed. Subject to 24 hour call out.

Minimum Essential Qualifications

Knowledge:

Thorough knowledge of manual tasks required for area of work assignment including knowledge of asphalt raking and/or concrete finishing techniques and knowledge of setting grades; knowledge of laser level equipment; knowledge of safety procedures; and basic knowledge of construction procedures preferred.

Skills/Abilities:

Considerable skill in the use and operation of hand and power tools such as concrete saws, chain saws, circular saws, bull floats, screeds, trowels, rebar benders, tampers, groovers, edgers, brooms, shovels and rakes as well as other equipment applicable to assignments; ability to perform manual labor for extended periods of time and during unfavorable weather conditions; ability to read and write; ability to follow oral and written instructions; ability to interpret maps and sketches; ability to operate laser levels. Ability to form, prepare, pour and finish concrete pavement and drainage structures; ability to make simple mathematical calculations; ability to make decisions and plan job tasks.

Physical Requirements:

Constantly sees and hears; frequently carries objects weighing up to 50 lbs., drags, pulls, pushes, lifts objects up to 100 lbs., squats, stands, stoops, kneels, twists body, walks, climbs, drives vehicles and writes by hand; infrequently crawls and sits.

Education/Experience:

High school graduate or equivalent preferred. Minimum (5) years of experience performing tasks associated with the construction and repair of concrete roadways, concrete drainage structures and related facilities, including knowledge of concrete finishing.
