Met Weld's manufacturing facility and Quality Assurance Programs deliver a controlled approach to each project and ensure the highest level of quality and service for our customers.PositionMet Weld International, LLC (MWI) is seeking a Welding Engineer to join our team in Altamont, NY. The Welding Engineer will help develop, qualify, and optimize welding designs and processes. The welding engineer in this role will interface daily with the engineering and manufacturing teams to make welding decisions and improvements as well as making sure standardized welding practices and procedures are followed. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in hands on welding along with a solid understanding of welding theory. This position will also be responsible for training and coaching others in their welding craft while ensuring best practices are followed.Job Duties and Responsibilities:Creates welding techniques and procedures to guide production and welding personnel on specification restrictions, material processes, pre- and post-heating requirements that involve use of complex alloys, unusual fabrication methods, welding of critical joints, and complex post-heating requirements.Train welders on proper welding techniques and best practices. Develop welding qualification testing for certifications.Directs and coordinates technical personnel in performing inspections to ensure compliance with established welding procedures, restrictions, and standards; in testing welds for conformance with national code requirements; or testing welding personnel for certification.Support manufacturing operations, providing direction to welders on correct techniques.Work closely with design, tooling, and engineering to improve welded designs for manufacturing.Perform statistical process analysis of welding processes.Define weld machine/specification requirements.Accurately report problems, solutions, and results, in concise written and oral communications.Support engineering and manufacturing with root cause analysis when necessary.Ensure work is done safely and meets quality standards.Outlines plans and conducts research and development investigations to develop and test new fabrication processes and procedures.Develop new or modify current welding methods, techniques, equipment and procedures.Prepares technical reports as a result of research and development and preventive maintenance investigations.Evaluates new developments in welding field for possible application to current welding problems or production processes.Experience:Previous experience in a machining and/or welding manufacturing environment. Hands on welding experience required.Experience in interpreting engineering drawings, specifications and/or other technical material and/or then translating into practical procedural instructions. Experience with brazing, joining, and metallographic interpretations.Experience in welding and brazing procedure development and/or testing.Experience with operator training and certifications, welding and brazing fabrication, problem solving, and weld/braze inspection preferred.Knowledge and experience in primarily semi-automatic and manual processes, weld prep and plasma cutting.Knowledge and ability about how to cut, bend, drill, tap, and other similar operations required to fabricate intricate assemblies.Tooling design experience for welded assemblies to reduce part distortion and improve part consistency.Qualifications and Skills:Fundamental understanding of welding processes.Understanding of weld strength testing methodologies, standards, and data acquisition systems used to make informed welding decisions (ASTM E8, E399, E704) Experience with root cause analysis and corrective actions. Ability to identify, troubleshoot and resolve critical issues in a timely manner.Self-motivated with strong attention to detailTraining/coaching skills and experienceProficient with computer and information technology (MS products)Knowledge of Six Sigma, process engineering, and Lean manufacturing principlesFamiliarity with applicable health and safety regulationsPrior experience interfacing with a quality management system, ISO9001, NQA-1, etc.CWI credentials welcomed, but not required.Education:Bachelor's degree in welding or materials engineering, or another related field3-5 years of relevant experience including some hands-on fabrication, manufacturing, or testing experience of welded assemblies.Experience with ASME Codes (Section VIII, IX, B31.1, B31.3, B31.12, etc.) fluid process systems involving piping, plumbing, filtrations, heating, instruction, and controls a plus.Prior experience with auxiliary power generations systems, ASME Section III and NavSea a plus.Physical Requirements:Ability to perform job duties that require standing, kneeling, crouching, twisting upper body, working in cramped positions in small openings and climbing hand over hand.ITAR Requirements:To conform to U.S. Government export regulations, applicant must be a (i) U.S. citizen or national, (ii) U.S. lawful, permanent resident (aka green card holder), (iii) Refugee under 8 U.S.C. § 1157, or (iv) Asylee under 8 U.S.C. § 1158, or be eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.Compensation and Benefits: $70,000 - $95,000 per yearRelocation Assistance Considered.401(k) plan with employer matchHealth / Dental / Vision InsuranceEmployee assistance programLife insurancePaid time off
