POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The Business Intelligence (BI) Analyst III works on a fast-paced, innovative team within the Business Intelligence department to enable the use of actionable data by IHA business units. This is a highly versatile role at the intersection of people and technology, requiring the ability to explain and translate business requirements into technical specifications. BI Analysts collaborate with all areas of IHA medical group including administrative departments, specialty divisions, and executive leaders to understand goals to deliver vital information to support data-informed decision-making. The BI Analyst's role in data projects includes gathering requirements, working with developers to integrate and transform data, and working with customers to validate data. A large part of the role focuses on creating interactive visualizations in the form of dashboards and reports and explaining data trends and findings. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are crucial to this role in order to present meaningful data findings in an impactful, easy-to-understand manner. The BI Analyst team promotes a culture of data use throughout the organization by facilitating a community of analysts and providing end-user training, consultation, and office hours in support of self-service tools. May use statistics, machine learning and other data analysis techniques to provide relevant and useful data solutions.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:Participates in strategic planning and roadmap design.Manages projects, including writing plans with tasks, resource requirements, accurate time estimates and deliverable timeline, and completion goals.Designs and enhances the logical and physical model for data sets through all phases, design to production support. Understands business use to retire obsolete data sets. Troubleshoots performance issues.Works with customers across IHA to gather requirements and translate business needs into solutions for complex data projects. Guides team members through the process.Helps to define and implement a shared support model for organizational data and analysis. Explains data governance roles and responsibilities for data. Suggests improvements based on observations and evaluating processes.Strives to improve and perform lead-level work on stretch assignments. Helps less-senior members with stretch goals and skill development.Mentors less-experienced members on the team and offers guidance and recommendations in team and customer discussions.Mentors and trains team members in a positive way to learn and improve. Actively seeks feedback and strives to increase work performance and skills.Trains team members on practical applications of data warehousing concepts, BI tools, ERP systems and medical group/physician practice operations and business processes.Designs training curriculum for end-user in-person and training videos. Supports and educates end-users on advanced use of tools, data sets, and complex reports.Helps team advance on plans for use of artificial intelligence, including Natural Language Processing, ChatGPT, predictive analytics, and leveraging machine learning to find hidden insights in data.Initiates self-guided learning to acquire new skills and identify software features or new technology to support the business. Implements new features and functionality to improve service and ensures team members can support.Creates and presents increasingly complex, interactive data visualizations and reports showcasing data insights that can easily be interpreted by non-technical staff.Creates and supports complex interactive visualizations, automated reports and ad hoc analyses using tools such as PowerBI, Tableau and SSRS to meet customer needs. Maintains large library of reports across multiple business areas.Creates, maintains and updates self-service data marts for end-users using SSAS Tabular model. Supports and educates end-users on use of data in SSAS Tabular models.Researches and implements improvements and new functionality. Seeks more efficient processes, including automation, and the use of artificial intelligence.Leads data validation and ensures customer sign off when reports are designed to customer specifications.Provides essential and timely information to BI and executive leadership through reporting tools and presentations.Creates clear documentation including specifications, data dictionaries and end-user training materials. Leverages business-defined data definitions to populate and update a central data catalog.Performs other duties as assigned.ORGANIZATIONAL EXPECTATIONS:

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience. Preferred field of study in data science, computer science, healthcare administration, public health, or finance. Master's degree preferred.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE: 5 years' data analysis experience required. Healthcare or financial data analysis experience strongly preferred.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS (ABILITIES & SKILLS):

Maintains a senior level of knowledge of data analytics technology, best practices and industry trends. Continuously seeks new data analytics knowledge.Has working knowledge of one or more of the following: healthcare codesets (ICD, CPT), performance measurement (quality, cost, and utilization metrics), financial and billing data.Demonstrated advanced level SQL coding skills. Ability to utilize stored procedures and SSIS packages.Demonstrated expertise and knowledge in data warehousing, database structures and relationships between entities. Can design, develop, and test database structures.demonstrate strong data analysis skills, learned through years of experience on a variety of complex data projects.Experience with one or more aspects of artificial intelligence such as: advanced analytics, machine learning, predictive analytics, natural language processing, ChatGPT or augmented analytics tools.Understands data governance principles, master data management, role-based security, and data quality principles. Experienced in Microsoft SQL Server Data Quality Services or Master Data Services is a plus.Advanced level knowledge of relational or dimensional databases as used in SSAS Tabular models, Power BI data models, or equivalent market products.Demonstrated contribution to all stages of BI project work (requirement gathering, design, implementation, testing and deployment).Experience with EHR - Epic Patient Care System, and the underlying data and reporting within - reports and Clarity and Caboodle as data sources.Proficient in operating a standard desktop and Windows-based computer system, including, but not limited to, MS365, Microsoft Excel, SQL Server Management Server (SSMS), database connections and troubleshooting. Experience with business intelligence products (Tableau, PowerBI, SSRS, Business Objects, or other reporting software). Ability to use other software as required while performing the essential functions of the job.Initiates self-guided learning to acquire new skills and identify new technology to support the business.Advanced knowledge and experience using analytic, reporting, and data visualization tools such SSRS, Business Objects, Power BI, or Tableau.Excellent communication skills in both written and verbal forms, including proper in-office chat and videoconferencing (MS Teams, Slack and Zoom) etiquette. Ability to speak before groups of people, either in-person or virtually.Strong communication and interpersonal skills are crucial to this role in order to present meaningful data findings in an impactful, easy-to-understand manner.Through innovation and new technology, ability to find ways to improve the end-user experience and alleviate the technical burden on patient-facing staff.This is a highly versatile role at the intersection of people and technology, requiring the ability to explain and translate business requirements into technical specifications.Ability to design project plans and working experience in all stages of BI project work (requirement gathering, design, implementation, testing and deployment).
