ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Measured by observation, review of documentation, physician, peer, patient/family input, and testing as appropriate.
Quality of Work
Demonstrates and applies an in-depth knowledge of nursing principles, practices, standards and techniques in accordance with corporate and departmental policies and the Oregon State Board's Scope of Practice at all times. Maintains current awareness of the abilities and limitations of each staff member and assigns duties appropriately. Demonstrates patient's plan of care and implements appropriate nursing actions to meet each individual patient's needs and documents per policy. Demonstrates effective planning for future needs in all aspects of the acute care setting including cost containment. Responsible for notifying Hospital Supervisor of patient census, patient acuity, and staffing needs as changes occur. Serves as clinical resource person to staff members in their daily activities. Initiates, supports, modifies, improves nursing practice in providing patient care as departmental goals/objectives change and as nursing practice dictates. Regularly maintains clinical competence in keeping current with health care trends and nursing practice. Maintains knowledge of departmental and corporate policies and procedures including infection control standards. Administers all medications, including chemotherapy and treatments per policy. Demonstrates awareness of the legal aspects surrounding the provision of patient care and professional practice. Quantity of Work
Gathers and accurately documents information and observations that contribute to patient's plan of care per policy. Assures that nursing care is accomplished effectively and that the medical regime for each patient is carried out as prescribed by the physician in collaboration with other disciplines. Regularly reviews work in progress to ensure care is proceeding as scheduled.Involves patients and families in education and preparation for discharge. Reinforces patients continued health care through teaching and/or referral to Resource Management. Demonstrates the ability to prioritize and effectively utilize time management. Actively participates on nursing committees/unit governance as evidenced by demonstrated contributions. Actively involved with orientation and training of newly hired staff as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS:
REQUIRED:
Basic nursing skills; Concepts of medical, surgical asepsis and disease processes; terminology, theory, techniques and practices of professional nursing. Effective verbal and written communication in, care management, flexibility with priorities and activity, and ability to remain calm and handle stress and emotional responses adapted to the needs of patients and staff. Demonstrated skills in analyzing problems, decision-making, planning and implementation, safe body mechanics and ability to use specialized equipment for assigned unit. Able to demonstrate and maintain soft skills as outlined in the Sky Lakes Medical Center Employee Standards handbook. Must have high school diploma or equivalent.
PREFERRED:
BSN and TNCC certification within 1 year of hire and maintained.
TYPICAL PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS :
Must be able to frequently stoop, bend, and reach,withstand constant walking, standing, lifting at least 50 pounds or more, push/pull hospital equipment, occasional sitting, and be able to function under periods of stress, trauma and/or disease.
PAY RATE: $49.81 - $71.12
