Pre-Op and PACU/Recovery Unit - 3/12s Unit/Job Details: • All nurses are trained to work in Pre-op and PACU combined unit** • 2 years of experience required in ER, ICU or PACU • All RN Shifts are 12 hours with 0500 start time if in pre-op and 0800/0900/1000 in PACU on weekdays • Weekends are 4 RNs, 2 at 0600 and 2 at 0800 • Call: Required 2-3 shifts per month (on call with 30 min call back) • Call is required for all staff with the call shifts weekdays 2200-0500 and weekends are 12hr call 0600 and 1800 starts • Night shifts are Mon - Thurs 2000 - 0430 (only 10 positions) and weekends 12hr 1800 start • RN will primarily work in either Pre-op or PACU due to schedules, travelers are first to float • All RNs required to take call unless working an "off-shift" (night or weekend) position as their regular shift. • RNs will care for patients in both pre and post settings if called in and during off shifts • Busy unit with majority of cases scheduled as add-on • Unit supported with techs • Average daily census: 35 - 50 • 12 rooms, 24 beds • Patient age group: pediatrics, adolescents, adults, geriatrics • Limited pediatrics, patient population 30s-100s • Float required to Pre-Op and Post-Op within Surgical Services; may be floated to outpatient ortho surgery or same day surgery center (on rare occasions) • All surgical patients are seen by pre-op RN • Medication system: Omnicell • Previous Charge experience preferred • Scrubs: Royal Blue (provided) • 2 requests off per contract accepted Special Procedures: • ICU, open hears, neurosurg patients recover in ICU unless ICU on hold • Surgical services includes: Bariatrics, Cardio Thoracic, General, GYN, GYN-Onc, Neuro, Spine, Ortho, Plastics, Podiatry, Urology, Vascular, Endovascular • May cover IRL, EP, Cath, plum, CT/MRI patients if off hours or recovery area is full • Very busy Robotic program (6 Robots) and busy Ortho total joint program • Unit staffed 24/7 • Required Certifcations/Experience: • ACLS • BLS • NIH • PALS • Phase I PACU • Dysrhythmia recognition/management • Starting IVs • Airway assessment • Obtain operative/procedural consent • Straight Urinary Catheterization female and male • Pain assessment and management Preferred Skills/Experience: • Ambulatory/Outpatient • Inpatient • Level 1 Trauma Center • Level 2 Trauma Center • Pre-Post • Gastric Bypass • Gastric Sleeve • Lap Band • Arterial line management • Bariatrics • Cardiac • Endo/Laparoscopic • General • Gyn • Neuro, Neuro/Spine • Ortho, Ortho/Spine, Ortho/total joints • Plastics • Podiatry • Robotics • Thoracic • Urology • Vascular • Carotid Endarterectomy • Sheath Pull • Vascular Surgery • Hyperglycemia/Hypoglycemia Protocols • Cholecystectomy • Colon Surgery • Whipple • AV/Fistula/Shunt • Renal Surgery • TURP • Bilateral Tubal Ligation • Hysterectomy • Mastectomy • Blood Product Administration, Central Line cate/management, Phlebotomy, PICC line care and management • Medications: Antiarrhythmics, Anticoagulants, Antihypertensives, Emergency Medications, IV vasopressors, Narcotics/Analgesics, Reversal Agents • Neurological: Anterior/ Posterior Fusion, Cervical Fusions, Craniotomy, Sine Surgery • Ortho: Circulation Checks, Open Reduction and internal fixation, Total joint replacement • Plastics: Abdominoplasty, breast augmentation • Respiratory: Chest tube management, End-Tidal CO2 monitoring • Anesthesia: conscious sedation, epidural, general, local, monitored anesthesia care (MAC), nerve blocks, spinal • Pre/Post Op Care: Follow up calls, obtain 12 lead EKG, Pre/Post Operative procedures, Pre-op assessment, Pre-op education, Review history and physical, Wound Vacs • Interpretation and communication of labs • Isolation precautions • Malignant hyperthermia protocols • PCA pump and management • RASS
