LABORER (GROUNDS MAINTENANCE)

Job Summary
This position is responsible for performing maintenance, construction, custodial duties and/or grounds keeping tasks in and around City owned parks, grounds, recreational facilities, and cemetery.
Essential Job Functions Assist in maintaining effective and efficient work production. Enforcing all field play ability standards and weather policy. Mowing, edging, fertilizing, pruning trees and shrubs, clearing right-of-way areas, tagging and identification of hazard trees and removal with appropriate equipment. Mowing, trimming, weed control, fertilizing, irrigation control and maintenance of various field areas. Cleaning of all public walkways, parking lots, restroom facilities, bleachers, score box, concession, and other associated park infrastructure, filling. Keep infield and warning track areas free of weeds and debris, dragging/raking fields with various tools and chemical products to ensure that playing surface is safe and playable for all patrons. Mulching of playground and various landscaped areas throughout the park Operating and controlling irrigation control system and using various chemicals and products on fields. Operating and maintaining various pieces of equipment, including large, small, zero turn style commercial tractors, mowers, trimmers, backpack blowing units, field maintenance equipment, various hand tools and job-related power tools. Gather and disposes of debris, weeds, grass, trees, shrubs, and plants. Cleaning restroom facilities and all trash receptacles repeatedly throughout an assigned shift. Maintaining city owned cemetery with mowing, weed eating, tree trimming, and removing debris, and other daily duties. Completing work orders assigned in a timely and efficient manner. Filling out various work completion reports, accident reports, and incident reports. Working with various leagues and tournament groups to ensure that all aspects of their events run smoothly during their scheduled activities. Assists the Parks Director in any phase of parks department operation and other related tasks as needed. Maintain regular and prompt attendance, physically present to work. Performs other similar or related duties as assigned. Employee may be required to work beyond normal business hours at night and/or on weekends. Minimum Qualifications & Requirements
Must have High School diploma; or equivalent (GED). Up to one (1) to three (3) years of related work experience to perform such job. Valid DL Class "C" Texas Driver License Required Applicant must pass pre-employment criminal background check and drug screen at City's expense. Must successfully complete Emergency Management and Incident Command Training within first three months of hire date. Bilingual English/Spanish preferred. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of building and grounds maintenance methods and practices. Basic carpentry, mechanical repair, and electrical procedures. Knowledge of various cleaning chemicals. Operating specialized cleaning equipment (e.g., buffer, carpet shampoo machine, vacuum cleaner, swimming pool cleaning equipment, etc.) and various hand tools. Operate power tools such as riding and push lawn mowers, weed eaters, blowers and chain saws. Operate hand tools such as shovels, picks, rakes, tree trimmers, etc. Skill in pesticide application Working Conditions/Physical Demands
Constantly performs work outdoor on a variety of parks projects. Exposed to equipment/machinery, noise, odors, chemical fumes, dust, smoke, oil, dirt and/or grease. Working under extreme weather conditions, excessive heat, and/or excessive cold for long periods of time. Standing/walking most of the work period, moving in over rough terrain.
