Floaters are typically scheduled to work 3 to 4 12-hour shifts per week (36 to 48 hours) and could work anywhere in Packaging. They could work as Packers, Stackers, Line Operators or Inspectors. Floaters should be willing to help in any packaging position needed. Following food safety, quality, and food regulatory requirements are critical when performing job duties of this position.In accordance with all company policies, the essential duties include, but are not limited to the following:Duties and ResponsibilitiesA.Follow all company policies including: GMP’s, HACCP, safety procedures, and product quality standards.B.Acquire a strong understanding of the bagel packaging process, participating in a constant cooperative effort to improve process for quality and efficiency.C.Become familiar with finished product packaging specifications and be an active participant in ensuring that all packaged finished product meets those standards.D.Monitor equipment from the entrance of the merge conveyor exiting the accumulation table, including metal detectors and casepacker. Monitor and operate the case packer.E.Communicate regularly with Packing Supervisor, Quality Assurance, Maintenance and Management as appropriate.F.Understand, practice and lead by example in all safety efforts.G.Assist in ongoing training to improve the understanding and skill level of all new and existing employees. On occasion review all new and existing procedures to keep aware of expectations. H. Qualifications•HS Diploma or GED preferred•One year of baking or packaging experience preferred•Excellent attention to detail, ability to work in a fast-paced environment (provable)Ability to read, write, and speak in EnglishPhysical DemandsMust be able to stand for 11 hours and lift <20 pounds.Assignment to the following functions is possible:Hand Packer: •Reject any packages that are not within the specifications of Fleischer’s Bagels.•Re-bag any product that is not properly packaged.•Assist in the process of label and product size changes.•Monitor progress of boxes during case packed runs to assure there is a constant supply of boxes being made.•Pay close attention to bags, clips, and boxes and communicate with line operators, Packing Assistant, Packing Supervisor, Quality Assurance, Maintenance and Management as appropriate to ensure quality and efficiency in packing process.•Assist in the changeover process, helping with the movement and setting up of equipment, as well as placement of boxes and trays as appropriate.•Keep packing area clutter free and clean. Return unpackaged bagels to lines for repackaging. Keep floors around the work area clear. Assist in removal of cardboard, poly packaging recyclables and garbage throughout shift.Casepacker Operator:•Set up and operate casepacker, assuring that correct size boxes are being used, adjusting casepacker as appropriate and contacting Packing Supervisor and Maintenance when there are ongoing problems with the start up or running of casepacker.•Remove all packages not in specification before they enter the casepacker for rebagging.•Straighten any skewed bags before they enter the casepacker. Alert Packing Supervisor if this becomes regular.•Assist in the process of label and product size changes.•Monitor the operation of the merge and metal detectors. Alert Packing Supervisor, Quality Assurance, Maintenance, and other employees as appropriate if there are running problems.•Pay close attention to bags, boxes and clips and communicate with line operators, Packing Assistant, Packing Supervisor, Quality Assurance, Maintenance and Management as appropriate to ensure quality and efficiency in packing process.•Assist in the changeover process, helping with the movement and setting up equipment, as well as placement of boxes and trays as appropriate.•Keep work area clean and clutter free. Remove loose bagels, bags, clips, and boxes from area around and under casepacker.
