Description Position at Danbury Hospital Summary:Provides clinical leadership and expertise in area of specialty. Diagnoses human responses to actual or potential health problems related to surgical intervention. Provides supportive or restorative care, health counseling and teaching, case finding and referral, in collaboration with the total heath care regime.Responsibilities:Responsibilities:1. Provides clinical leadership and expertise in area of specialty. Counsels staff in conformance with Hospital policy.2. Assesses, monitors and implements supportive nursing care, health counseling and education to patients undergoing cardio-vascular surgery including complete nursing assessment on admission.3. Assists surgeon/anesthesia provider cardiovascular surgical procedures, Swan Ganz Insertions, Intra-aortic Balloon Insertion, permanent pacemakers & other invasive procedures.4. Creates and maintains a sterile environment while performing all scubbing and circulating duties. Obtains and documents data collected.5. Follows ACLS protocol, under the direction of a cardiac surgeon/anesthesia provider, in the event of a complication or code 99. Asseses and monitors patient, establishes IV access, defibrillates and administers drugs as needed.6. Collects data for research studies, maintains proper levels of medications and supplies in the inventory, assists with the PI Program and coordinates the safety education program.7. Reprograms permanent pacemakers per physician order.8. Completes and maintains all cardiovascular specific competencies related to scrubbing and circulation duties including alll competencies related to cardiac specific equipment and instrumentation.9. Maintains accurate implant records and performs all mandated reporting of implants. Assists with ordering of implants and maintenance of inventory of implants and specialty supplies.10. Assists in the education of nursing and medical students.11. Develops and initiates teaching strategies which reflect educational needs of staff.12. Evaluates staffing requirements and recommends changes as needed.13. Oversees program compliance. Ensures the delivery of quality and cost effective care through problem solving and implementation of quality assurance/improvement measures.14. Assists in the technical, radiological, and nursing functions for all on-call procedures after hours, assists in the Performance Improvement Program of the department, and assisting in the training and development of other staff members.15. Achieve the organization's established expectations with regard to quality service, team work, self-development and community service16. Fulfills all compliance responsibilities related to the position.17. Performs other duties as assigned.Education: ASSOCIATE'S LVL DGREOther Information:Required: State of CT RN license. BLS certification required. Minimum of one year of RN OR experience or recent completion of Periop 101.Required: Associate's Level Degree and a minimum of 3 years job related experience.Credentials: State of CT RN License.Essential:* Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support* Basic Life Support* Registered NurseDesired: BSN preferred.
